“Uh, Yes sir, no I understand. Yes, thank you.” James said as he hung up the phone. He looked confused and hurt. You guys were enjoying a quite night in when he got a phone call from work.

“What is it babe?” you asked in a concerned tone.

“Uh. They, um, traded me?” He said like he didn’t fully understand.

The blood rushed from your face and you stared at him with wide eyes. You cared about James, but you had a life here. You immediately thought about how he would no longer be in Pittsburgh with you.

“Where to?” You managed to get out.

“Nashville.” He said not looking at you. He was still staring at the ground with a confused look on his face.

“Oh, well...” You trailed off, not really knowing what to say.

Suddenly he turned to you, “Come with me. Please?” he looked at you with hopeful eyes.

“You want me t-to move to Nashville?” You said taken aback. You guys had been together for about four months, but you didn’t think James was that serious about your relationship.

“I don’t want to go without you. With you there I’ll have something to remind me of home and where I’m supposed to be. I need you.” He said scooting closer to you and grabbing both of your hands.

“What about my job? And my family?”

“You don’t need a job. I can take care of you. If you end up finding a job out there then great, but it’s ok if you don’t. And you can fly home to see your family any time. I’ll even fly them out there for you if that’s what you want. We can get a nice house and maybe a dog or two. I mean you pretty much live here with me already. I just want you with me. No, I need you with me.”

You loved your life here, but you cared more about James. He was right, you’ve practically been living at his house for the last two months. You saw your family only on weekends when James didn’t have a game, so it wasn’t like you saw them terribly often, no more than you would if you were to fly into town once or twice a month.

“So what do you say?” James drug you from your thoughts.

You looked at his face that was filled with anxiety and worry, “Yeah, ok.” You said smiling at him. His face immediately looked relieved and he sighed quietly. He wrapped his arm around you and pulled you in close to him.

“This is going to be ok.” He said, more to himself than to you. You snuggled into him so he knew that you meant what you said. Another thought popped into your head and your body tensed up.

“What’s wrong?” James asked you, worried.

You looked up at him with wide eyes, “What about Geno?” James’ eyes went wide much like yours and his face went pale,

“He’s not going to be happy.”
