You were exhausted and drifting in and out of sleep. You looked over to your left to see Geno holding your new baby boy, Jack. He had been on a road trip and unfortunately missed Jack’s birth trying to get back home, so this was the first time meeting him.

Geno was speaking to him in Russian and the only thing that you understood was the sweet “I love you” he hummed to the sleeping baby in his arms.  Jack looked even tinier in Geno’s big arms. Geno looked up at you and smiled,

“Morning, beautiful. Sleep well?”

“Decently. I just want to go home already.” You had been in the hospital long enough and you just wanted to be able to curl up in Geno’s arms.

“Soon. You and baby home soon.” Geno cooed at the infant. He couldn’t take his eyes off of Jack for more than two seconds. It was the most adorable thing you had ever seen.

“How is he doing?” You asked.

“Good. Sleeping. So tiny.” He said as he smiled at the baby and brushed his finger against his son’s cheek.

“I love you.” You smiled as you watched lovingly at Geno who was already wrapped around Jack’s finger.

“I love you, too. Thank you for baby.”

You knew what he meant, but his broken English made you laugh. Your laugh made the baby fuss in Geno’s arms a little and Geno immediately soothed him by humming.

“What are you humming?” It was a tune you had never heard before.

“Russian lullaby. Mom sing to me.” He said with a smile after he got the baby back to sleep, never taking his eyes off of him. “I’m dad. Can’t believe I’m dad.”

“You’re a pretty great one already. I feel like he’s going to be a daddy’s boy.”

“Good. You treat mama well, too. Understand?” He softly said to the baby.

You smiled at him and looked over at the clock to see what time it was, “Hey, Geno, don’t you have practice?”

“Yes.” He said snuggling the baby tighter. “I not go.”

You chuckled, “Honey, you have to go. It’s work.” You didn’t want him to leave either. It was so nice having him with you.

“Just practice. Not care if I miss. Deal with Sid later.” He said as he scooted closer to you and gave you a kiss. “Don’t want to leave you both.”

You knew that if Geno didn’t want to do something he wasn’t going to and no one could make him so instead of fighting him you reached over and brushed your finger down your son’s cheek as he started to wake up.

“Good. Stay here and take care of us then.”
