     ~*~ Chapter One ~*~

"Lilian Terra, you will come downstairs right now if you know what's good for you!" I heard my mother yell from the bottom of the stairs.

"Uhhhhhhh!" I replied, still halfway asleep.

Today was my first day of human school. Before now, I had happily been home schooled with my Elemental classmates. Our four mothers, Naomi, Kim, Charlie and Amor, had gotten together twice a week to teach us basic Elemental training and normal human classes. Thankfully, my three best friends and fellow Elementals, Aqua Wasser, Gale Lucht and Amber La Feu, will be joining me today.

"Lilian!" my mother screeched, interrupting my thoughts.

"Why can't you call me Lily?" I yelled back.

"Because that is not what I named you!" she squaked.

"Ever heard of a nickname?" I asked, obviously needling her.

"Just. Get. Up!" As she said this, I felt something nudge me on my opposite side. I turned over to see a tree branch reaching through my window, trying to push me out of bed.

"Stop, Mom!" I yelled. I was tired and didn't want to deal with my mom plus the abilities of a fully grown Earth Elemental.

As I was beginning to get up, the tree branch stretched even farther to open my door. My father, Stu, was waiting on the other side. He rolled his eyes at the tree branch-turned-doorman holding the knob. My father flicked his finger towards the window, sending the branch back out.

     "Thanks." I said.

     "No problem." he replied.

"Why is she doing this?" I asked, exasperated.

"Because neither of your brothers ever had the opportunities you have."

"And those opportunities are?" I tested.

"To venture farther into the human world and learn more about how they work in comparison to us," he said, "not to mention the fact that you will gain more education than any of us or your ancestors." My father turned and left. I heard him thudding down the stairs, and then him telling my mother that I was up. Sadly, I thought.

I came downstairs a half an hour later with a green hoodie and brown tank top underneath.

"Good morning, highschooler!" my mother, Kim, said in a tone that was much exaggerated. She handed me an organic cereal bar (being the Earth Elemental family, we eat all organic. Yay.) as my phone rang.

"Hey, Dirt!" Gale's musky voice came from the other end of the line. He's been calling me Dirt ever since we knew which element we could maneuver.

"Hey, Gale." Gale's family are the Air Elementals. When they shift into wolves, they have two massive fur wings on their backs to sore through the air.

"You ready for normal teen school?" He asked.

"Ready isn't my word of choice." I replied, sourness slipping into my voice.

"What's your 'word of choice'?" He asked, mimicking my tone.

"Dreading." I said with a sigh.

"Come on, Dirt. Live alive!" Gale said, "I'll pick you, Amber and Aqua up in an hour." With that, he hung up.

     Dreading, I thought.
