~*~ Chapter Nine ~*~

Amber, Gale, Aqua and I met deep in the woods that night. Sneaking out was no easy task, either.

"Where are you going Lily?" my father had asked from over the newspaper on the couch.

"Out." I had said, trying to get away.

     "Out where?" He asked.

     "I'm going hunting with Amber."

"Fine," he had said, giving up, "be back soon."

"Yup." I had said, shutting the door behind me.

Now I was in the woods, looking for my friends. Just then, I saw an unearthly glow beginning to rise in the woods. I was no longer alone.

Hey, Amber's voice said through my mind.

Hi. Think you can tone town the Elemental flames? I can already see you, I thought back.

Really? Wow, I'm about a mile away now, she said. Amber was almost eighteen, which meant she was almost an adult Elemental. As Elementals age, their connection with their element grows stronger. I still have two years until I'll be an adult.

Yeah, I can hear Aqua coming from the west, I thought. Aqua was the loudest out of all of us. As she walks, the constantly crashing waves that make up her wolf body makes it sound like you're at the beach when you're really in the middle of the woods. Good thing that she's a vegetarian, too, becuase she would scare away any game she tries to catch.

Where's Gale? Aqua joined in the conversation.

Where is he always? Amber asked.

Look to the skies, Aqua! Gale came in.

I always wanted to be an Air Elemental. They're so free and full spirited.

Ready to go? I asked my three friends.

Yeah, let's go hunt some Subbies, Gale thought.

About two hours later, Amber caught the scent of the Subbie she had fought. He had been through our territory quite a few times, and Gale had to track him through a Suburb neighboorhood.

Why does Gale get to go? Aqua had asked.

Becuase he looks the most like a normal wolf, I had told her.

Yeah, because every normal wolf has wings and is as massive in size as Gale, Amber had thought sarcastically.

Plus, it's the full moon! Aqua had thought, Not only is the moon throwing more light on him, but humans might get weird ideas if they see a six hundred pound wolf run through their yard.

You two are paranoid, I had said to them.

Now we were gaining on him. As we became higher and higher up on the face of the mountain, his scent was growing stronger. Gale, Aqua and I had picked up his scent now, too.

He's in the cave just ahead, said Amber.

Amber, thought Gale, turn down your flames as far as they can go without killing yourself. Amber had to have flames on her at all times as a wolf or she would loose all of her energy and faint. Which, if not helped, leads to death.
