~*~ Chapter Fourteen ~*~

Cooper and I woke up early to eat breakfast because we didn't want to risk being caught by Aaron or Xander.

"Where are your parents?" Cooper asked through a bite of waffles.

"Out on patrol." I told him.

"Hunting for me?" he asked, already knowing the answer.

"Something like that." I said. Cooper was one of those people who asked questions just to make conversation.

"So what happened to Gale's dad?" see? That's what I mean.

"Well, when Gale was three, his father was caught cheating on Gale's mom with an Electric Subbie. I don't remember much of the banishment ceramony because I was two, but I do remember Gale running up to the stage screaming 'Don't take him' and him hugging Paul Lucht's legs." I told Cooper.

"That's sad." he said, staring at his plate.

"Why was your mom banished?" I asked.

"She had a friend who had gotten banished a few years earlier. She was an older Elemental, but she had a Subbie daughter, Catherine. When my mother's friend died, she tried to bring Catherine to live with her in the pack." Cooper said.

     "Big mistake?" I asked.

"Huge. Catherine went undiscovered for not two hours before she was taken out, hung, and my mother banished. I'm thankful today that she wasn't executed too."

"Wow. I'm sorry, Cooper." I said, though apologies don't help.

"Before she died of her cancer, she brought my sister and I to your woods." Cooper explains.

"And that's when we found you." I said.

"That's when you found me..." he ecoed.

For Elementals, it's either follow the rules or die.

"Our society is more corrupt that I thought." I told Cooper.

"Think it's time for change?" he asked, finally looking up.

     "I do."
