Chapter 24: Camo*

Z transferred some data into my computer after Lucario explained what it saw before Serena went missing. Calem was taking a nap on my lap on a bench while I worked. It was strange how I was letting him lay on my lap, but he seemed tired all of a sudden when we met up after the meeting.

"It's hard... to change" I looked at Calem talking in his sleep "I have no..." the time Calem suddenly ran to me when I tried separating from him and the group never left my mind... how desperate he was. I looked down at the keystone around my necklace and gently removed him from my lap to stand and walk away without waking him up

The quick glance I made at the screen after looking at Calem talking in his sleep was enough to nearly break me. I left the area to avoid anyone, making Pichu and Lucario stay with Calem, so I can find a place where I can snap by myself and not have anyone see me

I accidentally inhaled a deep breath loud enough to make it sound like a sob. I hurried into a close ally and leaned on the wall, pulling on my scarf in frustration. When I thought Empoleon had a answer, I got another disappointment from Lucario.

"Serena sounded in distress and fought a mysterious person in red with Fennekin. The wind was strong and a attack landing on Fennekin made it fly too far where Serena couldn't find it" the group thought Serena disappeared on the same spot Fennekin was found, but that was not the case. Because it's impossible to know where she was exactly in that desert, the clues are getting harder and harder to put together

"Pull yourself together... you know she's alive, that's all that matters right now" I held my aching heart and looked out in the open "she's fine... it's going to be fine" I felt someone's presence behind me. Feeling the darkness of a sinister person, I pretended like I didn't notice them "if I don't pay up soon, I'll loose everything" I said out of nowhere. Seeing if the words will trigger the person behind me "how am I going to get money fast?"

"Sounds like you need some help, young lady" I turned around to see a old woman walking up to me from the shadows. I didn't expect to see her... Though she had the face of a sweet woman, she had a bad vibe to her. I slowly faced her, making sure my hair was hidden "I'm happy to help. What seems to be the matter?"

"If you must know, I'm in need of money and I lost my job" it was too easy to make up a lie and make it look like she believed it

"Ah... yes yes. I think I'm able to help" I crossed my arms, narrowing my eyes and walked towards her

"Really? I'm pretty desperate... so do tell" she smiled wide and waved her hand to come follow

"Please follow me. I have some interesting people who know how to fix your problem very quickly" a shady old woman luring me into a dark alley was definitely a red flag. Because I was a expert on luring people into traps and witness multiple kidnappings, I knew how to handle the scenarios and followed the woman into the alley without hesitation

Still thinking about that gang Soto was telling me about, I decided to do a bit of research on them before I start playing around and see how badass they are compared to my Team Rocket Max gang, the gang my former boss called before I dismembered it all

I'm not saying this woman can be part of that gang I was told about, but because I was curious myself and remembered that family I saw when I left the restaurant, I couldn't help but do something

I normally don't care about these things. There's no doubt in my mind that this journey is changing me like I expected. I aimed to find myself when going around to find my sister, but I never intended to see myself go out of my way to help someone I only met once

I hate to see a family struggling like Soto does. He went out to become someone he didn't want to be, and even if he didn't go through too much, it's his mother who's in trouble. I wouldn't let anyone mess with my mom if it was the other way around. In fact, if it was my mom... this job I'm deciding to do wouldn't last long. Blood would be shed everywhere
