20. Faded Nights

Sit with me beneath the vaults,
meet me in my dreams tonight,
let me see the faded lights
that you acquired from faded nights.

Do you remember when we walked
beneath the broken heaven's faults?
Those cracks that filled the empty skies
we named as stars - for they gave us light.

A tilted, sideways world it was
With roads a-twisting, paths so crooked,
Ways and walks that swayed and stalked
and so we walked beneath the night.

I followed you from left to right
You followed me from right to left
until we left the world of night,
and there the road just ended, like -

I looked at you, you looked at me
We nodded, smiled, and tried to breathe.
We stepped into a space so bright -
And in a flash, we woke to light.

I saw reality, but you were gone.
The world was right but I felt wrong.
I wondered where you could have gone,
and alone, confused, for dreams I longed.

Though years have passed and I've forgot
The valleys that your features wrought,
I still recall your shining eyes
Reflecting, as they did, those broken skies.

I long to see your face again,
I dream of you every now and then
but nowadays my dreams are dead
merely pointless thoughts within my head.

Still, I hope that someday soon,
Whether evening, morning, midday noon,
that you'll appear before my eyes
and meet me in my dreams, alive.
