Ember was walking down the hall when he heard piano music drifting out of the music cave. He didn't recognize the song, but it sounded good. As he got closer, the musician seemed to hit a wrong note, and talons were smashed on the keys, followed by a sound that seemed to Ember like someone had slammed their face on the keys. He walked in just as Shore let out a groan of frustration.
"Hey," he announced. Shore looked over with a pitiful expression, his head still resting on the piano keys. He held out a hand.
"Stop. I cannot function enough to speak to another intellectual right now." He admitted.
"What?" Shore sighed and picked his head up.
"I don't know, it's something Ander told me once." He rubbed at his eyes. "Is there something I can help you with?"
"No, I was just wondering what song you were playing. And why you kinda've let it crash and burn." Shore stared at him with a serious expression.
"Actually I was thinking that's how it should end. Crashing and burning sounds like a delightful ending. Banging my head on the keys really accents it perfectly." Ember smirked.
"Or you could set the piano on fire. That one always works."
Ah, good idea." Shore grabbed a piece of paper. "Set piano on fire," he noted, writing it down.
"Haha." Shore smirked back.
"Going back to your first question, the song doesn't have a name yet. I wrote it, or, am failing to write it."
"You wrote that?"
"Yep."
"Well, you're definitely not failing. The ending has some issues though."
"That's the problem!" Shore groaned again. "It's taken me over two year to get this far, and now I've got nothing. Not a single clue as to how to end it." Ember's eyes widened.
"You've been working on this for over two years?" Shore stared blankly and grabbed something, letting it slam down next to Shore on the piano bench.
It was a huge folder, stuffed with papers.
"This is just some of it. The rest is stuffed into a filing cabinet in the back of Tempo's shop." He deadpanned. Ember stared at the mound of papers.
"Woah."
"Yea woah. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go find a quiet place to scream for an hour."
With that, Shore left, leaving Ember in shock. He glanced over at the folder and frowned, walking over and opening it. The papers inside were a wreck. Some were crumpled and torn; others had stains and burned parts. All of them were covered in scribbles of notes and rhythms. in addition to cross-outs and pointed out mistakes that were written in big bold, red letters. Ember leafed through them, amazed at the madness of it all. There was a packet stuffed in the middle of it, under the label of 'Title'. He carefully took it out and opened it to find crazed writings and words surrounded in question marks. All of them seemed to have one thing in common though.
Odd-ang, Orange's Reverie? Orange's Folly or Fanfare? O's Tango? Kills and Kisses? The Fierce Fruit? Strong and Salmon-Colored? Orange Smiles??????
One entire page was dedicated to the letter A, as if he had written out his very screams.
"Well, okay then." Ember offered, putting the packet back. He grinned at the sudden realization. "Hmmm to torture friend about his secret crush or not...." He thought for a minute. "Or I could just tell Permafrost and let the news spread all over the school....Oh, how the possibilities are endless."
