All of Jade Mountain seemed quiet as Boysen walked towards the Art Cave. It wasn't long until midnight, and he was far too curious not to take Haze up on her offer. She was already in the cave upon his arrival.

"You're early," she commented, sharpening one of the paint brushes. "That's a good quality to have." Boysen frowned.

"Why is it that you're always sharpening something into a pointy object?" he questioned.

"So that I always have a weapon to defend myself with, of course." She threw the paintbrush, pointed end out, and it stuck in the center of a blank canvas that hung on the wall. A small pile of brushes surrounded the floor below the canvas. "The others weren't sharp enough," Haze explained, retrieving her dart. "But this one will do." Boysen shook of his thoughts and focused on her.

"You say you would tell me about your past," he insisted. Haze didn't meet his eyes.

"Are you really sure you want to hear the sob story that I call my life?"

"Yes." She studied him for a minute before sighing and setting down the paint brush. She gestured to a stool.

"Have a seat. This might take a while." Boysen obliged and waiting. Haze thought for a minute, wondering where to begin.

"Alright," she said finally. "Let's start at the beginning- with my parents. It was nearly five years ago..."

"Everything starts with my mother. I never met her, nor do I know her name- but I do however know her story. The whole story, much more than my father does. Together we know everything about her, but I doubt either of us will ever know the whole tale. My mom was in a gang. Born and raised by it. Her father died during an attack on a rival gang so she was raised by her mother, who didn't particularly care about her dragonets. She was in love, or so she thought, with the leader of another gang- the son of the man who had murdered her own father. That gang had fallen down after a spy had leaked their secrets, and they were forced to combine with my mother's gang. She was all too happy to be closer to the dragon she loved, but then everything changed.

The spy that had ruined her lover's gang had been captured, and they had talked. He had convinced my mother that the dragon she loved could never truly love her back, so she ran away- all the way to Possibility. It was there that she met my father. He was a doctor's assistant, and they ended up falling in love. And this time my mom knew it was true love. She could feel it in her very bones, my dad said."

Boysen shivered slightly. That sensation sounded too familiar for comfort.

"The doctor my dad worked with also happened to be his best friend, and she loved the two of them together. My mom was hesitant at first because she was afraid that the the gang would come after her, but my dad and his friend convinced her that there was nothing to worry about."

"What were their names?" Boysen asked. "The doctors or the gang members?"

"I don't know about the gang members, but my Dad's friend's name was Mayfly." Haze explained.

"Anyways," she continued. "They were already seriously thinking about getting married when they found out about a slight complication."

"You?"

"Yep, Me. They didn't care though. The plan was that they were going to get married after I hatched, but that didn't go as planned. My mother had been right to be afraid. Her old lover from the gang had tracked her down. They broke in one night when my father was away, tending to an injured Rainwing.

They tried to take my mom away, but Mayfly fought against them. They hurt her- badly, and the kidnapped my mother. Mayfly stumbled and collapsed on the ground. She died on the floor, right next to my egg. When my father returned home, he found the scene and Mayfly dead- my mother gone. Before he could even search for her, I hatched. He knew what had happened, and believed that my mother had been killed. So he moved on, raised me, and took Mayfly's place at the doctor's office. That's it. The end."

Boysen stared in shock.
