The next day you all met up after training. You guys couldn't find dragons for your brothers right now, but you would in time. You let them ride Nightshade instead. Zane was first. Hiccup was on Toothless to help them in the air and Nightshade knew to take it easy since it was their first time with a dragon let alone riding one.

"Okay, Nightshade! Let's take this slow. You too, Zane." You instructed.

"Right, um...w-what do I do?" He asked, completely clueless about how this worked.

"Start with something simple. Let's try a hover." Zane nodded. Nightshade still didn't move. "You have to tell her what to do, Zane. Try to direct her. She's kind of like riding a flying horse, honestly."

"But...can't you handle that?" He asked nervously.

"Not if I'm not riding with you. Once you have your own dragon, I'm not gonna be there to tell your dragon what to do. I have to take care of myself while I'm in the air." He sighed.

"O-okay." He agreed hesitantly. "Um...up?" Nightshade smiled and spread her wings. She flew up into the air and you smiled happily.

"That's it!" You called. Zane began to regain his courage.

"Forward?" Nightshade started flying and soon, Zane didn't have to tell her what to do. He used the gear Hiccup had made and the two of them flew around together. Hiccup stayed near them just to be safe.

"Nice work, Zane!" Hiccup called.

"Thanks!" The four of them landed and then it was Ash's turn. Ash tried to seem like he wasn't nervous at all, playing it off as impatience and eagerness, but you knew he was mentally screaming to himself. Ash actually shrieked when he tried a dive and he almost fell off, but he was able to regain his balance and keep his grip. He got off of Nightshade, clearing his throat. He pretended to shrug it off like it was easy.

"Yeah, dragon-riding. Pfft, easy. No issues here." Ash played off. You elbowed him in the gut. "Ow!"

"You freaking lair." You said with a grin. He huffed.

"Alright! Fine! So it's not that simple! Jeez!" Ash snapped, crossing his arms. You chuckled.

"Alright, Kent! Your turn!"

"I...I don't know." He said quietly.

"You want me to ride with you?"

"What? No! I...I'm not scared I just..." You knew Kent had issues with this sort of thing. He always thought he would never be good at daring things, or fighting, or anything like that. You took his hand and led him over to Nightshade.

"You know something, Kent?"

"What?"

"Sometimes, the most patient person is the one that perseveres the most." He looked a little stunned, but he smiled. He carefully and slowly climbed onto Nightshade. He breathed in and out.

"Up." Nightshade flew upward and she hovered there. Kent smiled and pet her. She purred happily. Kent started flying with her. He did it flawlessly. His patience and control had really helped him. He was happy to take it slow and ease into it all. In the end, he ended up doing more than what the others could do. You were proud of him. You smiled as they landed.

"Told you." He chuckled a little and gave you a hug,

"Thank you, (Y/n)." You hugged back.

"You're special, Kent. Don't let anyone tell you differently." He smiled and went back over to the others. Carl ran up to Nightshade and hopped on. You were nervous about Carl. He could get to be a bit...much.
