Gift of Life

Exactly one year ago today, my mother received a life-saving heart transplant
*****

Two souls, one heart

Eight lives, one gift

An infinite legacy.

I watched you die before my eyes

I watched as you fade away

We all watched helplessly

Begging you to stay.

Laying there you looked into my eyes

And told us not to fear

That you knew fate had it's plans

And that we shouldn't fear

Then suddenly, it happened

Exacty one year to this day

We were all scared: what if this was the end?

The words we didn't have to say.

Someone felt their soul going to rest

And amid their strife

They left a gift so priceless

They left the gift of life

Two souls, one heart

Eight lives, one gift

And a lasting legacy.

*****
We never will know who it was that donated the gift of life.

Somewhere a family is in mourning

Unaware of how many lives their loved one touched

To this family, I must say:

Thank you.

Thank you to the doctors

The specialists

The experts who refused to give up even when they said it was impossible

Nothing is impossible
