Five Years Later
I stirred awake and turned over in bed to cuddle into the love of my life, but was disappointed when I was met with cold sheets. I lifted my head and looked around to see if she was in the bedroom but I couldn't find her. I groaned and stretched before pulling myself out of bed to go find my fiancé.
I could hear the clanking of utensils as I neared the kitchen and assumed she was in the process of making breakfast. I smiled when I saw her looking through the fridge with her back to me. I slowly made my way over to her and wrapped my arms around her, feeling her immediately relax in my embrace.
"We don't have any eggs," she mumbled. "Why do we need eggs?" I asked, nestling my face in her neck. She giggled and closed the fridge. "I wanted to make breakfast. Can we go to the store really quick?" She asked me as she turned in my arms and ran her fingers through my hair. I closed my eyes and hummed at the welcome contact. "C'mon goof," she giggled, pulling me to slip on my shoes while she grabbed the keys.
We both walked out to the car and hopped in, myself only now realizing I didn't have on a shirt. She saw my expression and reached in the back seat to hand me a jacket before beginning the drive to the grocery store. I smiled as she sang along to the radio as she drove.
"Is there anything else we need while we're here?" I asked as we walked into the building. "Uh... yea. Can you go grab some fruit while I get milk and eggs?" I nodded and she pecked my lips before walking off. I made my way to the produce section, grabbing a few plastic bags so I could get a couple of different fruits.
I turned the corner of the isle without looking where I was going and paid the price for it when I ran into someone.
"I'm so sorry. I wasn't watching where I was going," I said, finally meeting the girl's eyes and freezing.
"Y/n?" She asked, smiling at me. "It's been so long since I've seen you," she said, pulling me into a hug.
"Yea, it's been a while Normani," I laughed out, stepping backwards a bit.
"How have you been?" She asked as she looked me up and down. "I've been great," I told her, watching as her smile faltered a bit. "You?" I asked.
"I've been okay," she stated vaguely. I wanted to ask what was wrong but stopped when I saw my fiancé coming up behind Normani.
"I got the milk and eggs. Did you get everything you wanted?" She asked, walking to my side. I watched as Normani's face showed confusion when she looked in between the two of us.
"Normani?" She asked, moving forward to hug the girl. Normani hugged back and I could pretty much see her putting the pieces together in her head.
My fiancé turned back to me and stopped at my side. I looked at her and her bright green eyes showed so much love as she reached out to hold my hand.
"You two...?" Normani trailed off, looking between the two of us.
"Uh... yea. Lauren and I are actually engaged," I told her, following her eyes as she looked down at the diamond ring on Lauren's finger.
"Oh. Congratulations," Normani forced out, clearing her throat as she took a step back. "I have to get going. I'll see you two around," Normani rushed out. She tried to turn around and leave but before she could I grabbed her hand and pulled her into a hug. Lauren watched with a sad smile as Normani hugged back for a minute, taking a deep breath before she pulled away.
"I'll see you later," I said before she walked off. "Are you okay?" Lauren asked when it was just us again. "I'm fine. I have you," I said, kissing her cheek. "I just hope Normani has someone," I mumbled. "You're too good for this world. That girl broke you, and here you are, wishing her nothing but the best," Lauren said, pecking my lips.
"I forgave her a long time ago. C'mon let's get some fruit so we can get back home," I said, kissing her again before she snatched the fruit bags and ran to the mangos.
