After already having the cloth over her eyes for a full day, Athen was completely ready to have her sight back. That was - unfortunately- not the case. After the storm had calmed down a few days earlier, Snotlout had been sent to berk to collect Gothi yet returned emptyhanded. It seemed that a sickness had befallen Berk and Gothi could not leave as she was treating the many sick Vikings of her home island. and ss Athens younger brother returned to the edge he handed Hiccup a list of things to do to treat her blindness. Just minutes later Athen found a cloth over her eyes and a wooden mug of a horrible smelling drink she had to have.
"You seriously think I am going to drink that? " she said as someone offered the drink to her.
"Just drink the damn thing Athen" It was Astrid's voice. "The sooner you drink it the sooner you'll get your sight back and you can fly Gallows again," she said in a bored voice, pushing the horrid smelling drink back into the woman's hands. For the sake of getting out of her hut for once, she gulped down the drink and shoved the mug back into the blonde girl's hands.
"We'll check your eyes again tomorrow, until then...just stay in here" She heard the chair scrape on the ground and Astrid's footsteps left the hut, closing the door carefully as her footsteps faded into the distance.
Astrid had come by again the next morning and made her drink another mug of that horrible concoction, then informing her that the riders were headed out to a hunter base where Krogan was said to be collecting more Singe-Tail dragons for his dragon flyers. According to the blonde teen, the riders would be away for two days - the same amount of days that Athen had been stuck in her and Astrid's shared hut now - and would be back hopefully with the flyers supply of dragons cut off. Astrid assured here that she would still have someone giving her the drink that she had for her eyes. The blonde girl then took the cloth from Athen's eyes.
"I can make out definite shapes now, everything is still incredibly blurry" she explained and the cloth was placed over her eyes again.
"It should only be a few more days and you should have your vision back completely".
"Alright, I guess I'll SEE you when you all get back?"
"Hopefully" the girl replied, followed by a small chuckled and the closing of the door of the hut. Athen layed back on her bed and closed her eyes under the cloth, her calloused fingers tapped at the wooden bed under her, making a soothing tune as she waited for her eyes to heal - slowly and surely.
It seemed she had fallen asleep as she was shaken awake by someone a few hours later. She groaned in annoyance and pushed herself into a sitting position on the bed she was laying on previously.
"Who is it?" she asked, annoyed.
"Who do you think it is?" A voice replied.
"Well I was hoping it wasn't you" she replied and now wished that the man was not here as she was still half asleep and wished to lay straight back down again.
"Astrid told me to bring this too you," He said and she heard the placing of a plate on wood.
"Did she threaten to throw you off the edge if you didn't deliver it?" she asked. A small chuckled followed.
"Something like that" Viggo replied and she heard the scrapping of the chair on wood as it was pulled up. The plate was placed on her lap and a fork ear her hand and she began to eat.
"Astrid has never been the best cook" Athen muttered between bites. The black haired woman struggled through it though as it was the only thing she had really eaten for a few days. For someone who was used to being outside all the time, flying with her dragon and exploring the surrounding islands on foot. Being stuck inside for nearly three days had taken its toll on the woman. she hadn't eaten much at all and did nothing but lay on the bed and live through her memories again.
"Im surprised that Hiccup is letting you freely walk around the edge, knowing your....history," The woman said. placing the fork down on the empty plate followed by the plate being taken away from her.
"As was I, though I assume he has nowhere to keep me as the stables are still in coals" Viggo replied and Athen heard the scraping of wood on the ground.
"What are you doing?" She asked in a harsh voice. The was silence for a moment before the hunter replied.
"Moving the chair, Stand up"
"What?"
"Stand up!"
Athen carefully determined where the edge of the wooden bed was and shakily got to her feet, leaning on the bed for support. Her legs felt weak from not using them for a good few days.
"Why am I standing up?" She asked aloud.
"If you keep yourself confined to your bed for days on end your legs will become impossible to walk on, you need to move around otherwise you will be of no use to anyone when your eyes heal." Viggo replied and she felt a hand on her shoulder."Just walk forward".
Athen took a small step forward and almost fell as her legs could not support her, she was caught though by a hand pulling her arm back so she stood upright again. She tried again and soon she was able to walk the length of the hut by herself without stumbling.
"I want to go outside"
"Now now, we wouldn't want to displease dear Hiccup by breaking his precious rules would we?" The man chuckled and Athen mentally rolled her eyes. She knew she was near the door anyways and so ran her hand along the wall, finding the latch where the door connected to the wall. She then ran her worn fingers down the wood until she reached the doors handle, pulling it inwards and using the wall as a guide as she exited the hut.
"Well, I clearly underestimated you"
"Clearly" she replied and promptly tripped over a barrel. She landed harshly on her side and groaned, rubbing her arm where she had landed.
"I told you that Hiccup knows what he is-"
"Shut your mouth Grimborn" she growled and moved into a sitting position, leaning against the wall of the hut and feeling the sun on her face, through the cloth.
"If Hiccup becomes annoyed I take no credit for it" the man said and walked off. Athen just enjoyed being out in the sunlight again and not cooped up in her room, away from the light and what she enjoyed most.
I don't like this one much but here it is, the next one is the best one I've written.
