A great beast crouched on the rocky face, claws digging into grey slate stone as it watched with fiery eyes down on the camp, looking for the signal its rider was to give it. It had seen the events of that day play out in the stony clearing of the camp, packing the dragons onto the ship- capturing the winter dragons as they moved south as the colder weather spread over the entire archipelago. The dragon hissed in fury, but quietly as not to alert the hunters that it was there. The massive orange typoomarang 's sharp eyes had seen that day one of the female prisoners sneak fish to the bulky Woolly Howl that the hunters were keeping for furs. He knew that with the four prisoners, he would not be able to carry them all - clearly, his own rider had just gotten used to the slight burn when the dragon took off, it would not be right to make these people deal with that so quickly, especially after the horrible treatment from the hunters.

The Woolly Howl in question was a strong and swift beast with thick brown fur ringing its neck and back, stark grey white scales covered the rest of the body of the dragon. Imperium's eyes darted to the cave and in the darkening light, he could see the small amber gem that his rider usually kept in his pocket, a gem he had received when he had become chief. The great range beast let out an ear-splitting - Blood curdling roar that echoed over the island, the hunters who stood guard yelled and shouted in surprise, trying to get their bows out to fight the beast, before they even could knock their bows the great dragon let out a firey blast of heat, burning up the crossbows and sword hilts, burning the skin of the horrible men.

The dragon lifted into the air again, ignoring the arrows that tried to be lodged into its scales. Imperium crashed to the ground again in the main clearing of the camp, blowing fire around the camp, burning up tents and weapons.

Imperium crushed the cage that the Woolly howl was in, communicating with the winter dragon, telling it to free the people in the cave - as the Typoomarang was to large to fit in the narrow and short cave where the humans were kept. The Howl glared up at him with biting icy eyes before realizing he was speaking of the woman who had offered him fish earlier in the day  - with that the grey dragon bounded into the darkness, shouts sounded as the sound of cracking glass and ice echoed from the cave entrance. Imperium worked on keeping the other hunters back from the cave entrance, he beat his long wings, sending hunters sprawling back from the blasts of wind that were kicked up from the wing beats. Every now and again he would let out a blast of fire - his shot limit was coming up though and the dragon knew that they would have to get out soon if they were to survive this endeavour.

A yell sounded behind them as his rider and three others exited the cave at a fast pace, His rider and another young man ran towards Imperium while an older woman and a young girl had gotten onto the Woolly Howl's back, the smaller dragon was already in the air. As Viggo and the other man got onto the dragons back Imperium took to the air with great speed, being careful not to burn the riders as the two dragons sped from the island. Avoiding the chains, arrows and nets from the ships as they passed was harder then he realized. But soon they were out to open sea, gliding softly over the waves with strong wing beats.

"Let's get back to dragons edge" Viggo spoke from Imperium's back. The other humans with them, the younger ones seemed fascinated by the two dragons, asking questions about them - their names and shot limit and skills. The other woman, the older one seemed tired and quieter - she was laying on the Howls neck - the fur around it acting as a pillow for the human as they flew along. She seemed to be sleeping now, the adrenaline of the escape clearly wearing off.

The sun had almost fully set now as they flew over the waves, on the back of his dragon Viggo analyzed the yellow amber gem im his hands, something given to him by his mother when he had first become chief of the tribe. He remembered things about his childhood - the trips that he took with his father to the meeting of chiefs, he remembered a few little things that had not crossed his mind in years and years. The first meeting of chiefs he attended with his father at the age of 14. His father's brother had come with him along with Viggo's own brother, Ryker, who was now on dragons edge.

He remembered when they first entered the hall of chiefs. It was a tall building that could have fit all the people of all the tribes, the walls held paintings of all of the chiefs of the past, the ones before, the ones who had begun this tradition of meeting with the other tribe chiefs.

Many chiefs of great tribes where there. The Wanderers, The Outcasts, The Beserkers, The Very Vicious, and the Berkians. Though most of these groups had their heirs with them, the Beserkers and Berkians did not have direct heirs old enough to attend the meeting. Therefore indirect heirs were invited. Next to The Beserker chief sat a tall boy with unruly black hair, Sadur Laison, son of the Chiefs brother. Beside the Berkian Cheif Stoick the Vast was a tall man with messy black hair and the starts of a beard, next to that man was a short girl with the man's same black hair in a tight braid along her back, her bright blue eyes glared across the room like everyone there had stolen her Snoggletog gift. She stood like she held the power of the universe in her hand, standing straight.

That was the first time he had seen that girl, before the burns that is - before her memory was damaged by the terror of the fire and before he had been consumed by his greed for power and money.

He never thought about it before, he could remember the time before he became chief when he enjoyed attending those meetings.

It was a long flight but they arrived before dawn. It was still dark when they saw the thin line of dragons edge in the distance.

Imperium landed on the dragons edge island, letting out a roar to let the riders know they had returned, Ryll awoke Athen with a gentle shake as the woman got off the grey Woolly Howl and stood by her own on the deck. Riders rushed from their huts hearing the call from the great dragon. The first thing that happened was Athen and her brother hugging each other tightly. Viggo greeted his own sibling with a kind nod of greeting, his brother returned it and Hiccup walked towards them with purposeful steps.

"Thank you" was all he said to the man.
