Another chapter! Whhhaaaattt look whos on a roll!.

If you guys want to ask Athen questions leave them in the comments below and I'll have her answer them. You can also leave questions for anyone else in this book so far.

I've been reading all I can on the actual game of Maces and Talons from the show and I think you'll see why in this chapter.

Anyways onwards with the story!

Also #Ven is their ship name XD.

Athen had most of her sight back now, though she was still unable to take Gallows out for a fly. The silver dragon himself had taken to guiding Athen around the edge when she wanted to leave her hut. Hiccup and the other riders would be away for one day still so the raven-haired woman was able to wander around the edge without the one-legged boy scolding her about leaving her bed.

Hiccup and his friends were supposed to be back the next day; hopefully, by then her full sight would have been returned. It had been odd, not having the riders here with her. Not having the twins reeking havoc, Snotlout yelling at said twins, Astrid's constant battle training. The silence was nice for once. The only other person on the edge was Viggo and so far he seemed to have caused no trouble and mostly kept to himself, staying in the spare hut or in the clubhouse where he would read or look over maps of the archipelago.

Athen -with Gallows help- headed towards the clubhouse to see if there was any food in the storage area. Once she had entered, taken a small plate of yak meat and left the storage room she noticed Viggo in the corner, in front of him was a large wooden box, where he seemed to be moving things around though she couldn't see it properly.

"What are you doing?" she asked carefully after swallowing a bite of yak meat.  The man looked over at her.

"Maces and Talons" He replied, "It's a simple strategy game". Athen walked over, lead by Gallows over to the chair across the board from Viggo.

"How do you play?" she asked politely. The brown-haired man then sent the next twenty minutes of the day explaining the complicated rules and movement paths. There were a dragon and a longship which acted as shields for each side. There were a Viking chief and a chief of the marauders. The acted as like the kings in chess, then a shield maiden for each side acting as the queen. The shieldmaiden had an unlimited amount of moves but must be captured by the opposing team before its team could capture the opposites king. Another piece, the imposter, also had to be captured before the king could be captured.

After the long explanation Athen decided she wanted to try a game and they reset the board, he told her to move her first piece and so the game began. It seemed for a little while that Athen knew what she was doing. Sometimes her vision would blur for a little while and Viggo would have to point out which piece was which and what pieces he moved on his own side but mostly through the game Athen seemed to be able to focus and was doing quite well until Viggo moved one last piece and her Viking chief was dead.

"Don't fret, the game is exceptionally difficult for beginning players, It is usually a game for chief's heirs to play to hone their skills in military and strategical prowess before becoming the chief." The hunter said and reset the board pieces to their original places.

"I could have won, you just have a little more experience at the game then me" Athen replied with a small smirk on her face.

"Indeed?" he replied mirroring the same expression. It became silent for a few minutes - an awkward silence filled the air-.

"Well," the woman coughed. "I have a few things to sort out in my hut, thank you for explaining the game...Viggo" she said getting to her feet, her silver dragon bounded over and guided her out of the way of some boxes and out of the clubhouse. Once she reached her own hut she realised that for once in the whole time she had known him she had used his first name.

Two hours had passed, Athen had tided the entire hut - not something she would usually do - but wished it to not be full of half eaten plates of food and discarded papers when Astrid returned, it was the blonde girls home away from home anyways.

The dark haired woman - once finished sorting - Looked through a box she found under her spare bed. Creaking open the oak metal encrusted lid she carefully picked up the leather bound book inside, its dusty pages crinkled under her fingers as she opened it. The writing was written in an old language that Athen had learnt a little of on her travels around the archipelago.

Day Two of the island.

It seems as though the hunters had not thought to look for me. My brother is said to be dead and some ruffian has taken charge of the hunters I once commanded. I have not heard any word of anything regarding the riders or their friends on berk so im hoping they perished in the final battle, most likely not it seems though.

The island here is interesting. After setting up a small camp in a cliffside cave I came across the first dragon I had seen on this island. An emerald green monstrous nightmare, an interesting colour for such a creature but a magnificent specimen. Further study of it will be needed.

For now, I must fix up my camp, let's hope that these written notes will at least keep me sane. My last stand against the riders showed a side of me I never want to see again.

Athen turned the page and read the next entry.

Day Four of the island.

My camp is going well, there is game on the island to hunt so that seems well. My presence here seems to be bringing some attention from the wildlife as the dragons have begun to take notice of my camp and hunting. There is a small pack of change wings here though they keep to the wooded south part of the island, If I stay away from there they should cause no trouble.

Another run-in with the green nightmare yesterday, it seems to be female and has become quite territorial, I assume that she has eggs somewhere on the island. Im simply hoping that she does not see me as a threat to her eggs and therefore try to drive me from the island or worse.

These notes seem to be helping so I may continue writing them. I found a chest buried on the west part of the island and I will keep these notes in there.
