-Chapter 63, The Sweetest Contempt, by yeonnieong

ONG RAEYEON

Post lamps by post lamps, alley by alley, she found herself trailing behind Woojin secretly for ten minutes, still not giving up on her curiosity, with her complete sleeping attires, looking oh so fabulous. She was obviously starting to call herself crazy, but honestly who wouldn't want to know?

"Ouch-" she blurted out, after tripping over her wrecked slippers that had its sole half-way peeled off.

She immediately covered her pursed lips with her palm, her heart beating way faster than coming to school without her math homework done.  She was hiding behind an entrance of an alley, her position awkwardly resembling a crawling baby after tripping.

Why am I nervous even though it's only Woojin?

No steps of him could be heard after waiting for about 2 or 3 minutes, but unexpected threatening steps started to appear, more likely steps of two men wearing boots, followed by a playful, husky, and creepy chuckle.

"Who do we have here?" someone spoke with a tint of lust in his voice. "your hair is in a complete mess, and you're wearing pajamas." he said, while crouching down nearing her. "what a cute mess."

Raeyeon couldn't look up to his face due to fear, fixing her gaze on the floor as she heard the other men laughing along with this pedophile in front of her. The only thing that she could do was pray inside her heart, that she wanted to be reincarnated as a home cat who would only sleep, eat, poop and pee.

The men in front of her harshly snatched her chin, directing it towards him, making her look directly in his dark, grey eyes. He didn't look like someone who gives a damn about Raeyeon's comfort.

"Look at me." he spoke, a smile on his face.

Raeyeon spat on his face. She might've done wrong, but looking at him was just disgusting.

"You-" before the man could reach his dirty palm on her cheek, he grimaced, his left hand instantly clutching onto his chest, his hand that was about to land hard on Raeyeon's cheek curled in a tight fist.

W-What's happening to him?

His friend was rushing towards him to see what was going on to him, but he too, started doing the same. Raeyeon had her eyes wide, retreating her legs away from them in terror, watching them starting to choke blood, in cry for help.

What's this? Why are they choking blood out of nowhere??

No one was around the scene there, and they were just suddenly in a horrifying pain, groaning and yelping as they clutched their chest, blood pouring out of their mouths with no alarm whatsoever. It just happened. And it was freaking her out.

Not taking any more of the horror sight, with every bits of energy left in her body, she lifted herself up, escaping and planning to run back to the open street, until she was met face to face with the guy that brought her here.

Park Woojin.

"Woojin-"

Her breath hitched as soon as he lifted his head. His eyes met hers, and it was no ordinary eyes. It was red alright. Ruby Red. And as much as she wanted to appreciate how beautiful it looked, she couldn't help finding herself scared of the unfamiliar Park Woojin.

He moved forward, closing in the space between them.

"P-Please don't- Ack!!" she yelped when he slammed his hands on the brick walls behind her, trapping her between his slightly-built arms.

His red-lit eyes were flaming, anger clearly plastered on his face; and his fangs, those fangs she once thought was cute, grew sharp, ready to have its feast.

So I'm not going nuts, he is a vampire.

Plop.

Just like their first encounter with each other, Raeyeon found Woojin collapsing his head on her shoulder. This time, he was breathing, rather heavily. He was resting on the crook of her neck, somehow assuring her that he wasn't dangerous.

"Woojin, are you okay?" she asked after that intense moment.

Exhaling, he breathed out, "You're safe."

Feeling the hot air blow on her neck, she carefully placed her palm on his forehead, checking his temperature. And as she expected, it seemed like he had a severe fever.

"You were fine at school," she said. "do I really have to piggyback you all the way to my house?"

Woojin only replied with a lazy groan, his head stationary laying near her neck.

Raeyeon was almost raped by a creep, who suddenly choked blood and pretty much is still tortured by the sudden pain attack, and now she had to deal with a sick friend who revealed his natural red eyes and fangs two minutes ago.

What on earth just happened.

In a blink of an eye, she was already half a kilometer away from her house, thinking of words and a bit of lies to explain about this heavy ass vampire on her back, with his leg dragging its way on the ground. She needed her mother to approve of him staying for the night.

Plus Seongwoo's bedroom was empty ever since he moved away. So why not?

"Mom, I swear to God it's not what you think. He's just a friend. My only friend at school." Raeyeon said, after plopping herself down on the sofa and massaging her own shoulder. Her mother just had to appear with her arms crossed right now.

"Are you asking me to believe you when you took about an hour or so, claiming that you only wanted to buy gummy bears at the convenience store about 5 steps away from here?" Mrs. Ong said full of sarcasm. "And where is that so called gummy bears you were craving for?"

Raeyeon groaned, "I left them when some..." she paused, finding the perfect moment of reasoning. "some kidnappers came to me mom. And he saved me from them. I owe my life to Woojin. Just let him stay this night, he's really sick."

Her mother immediately softened up when she heard that the guy in her son's room rescued her daughter from danger. She sat beside Raeyeon, worryingly scanning her physical state, searching for any bruises or scars.

"He only touched my chin," Raeyeon said with a pout. "then Woojin came and fought them."

Was it a lie or not, she actually didn't know.

"Oh no, my daughter..." Mrs. Ong cried dramatically, engulfing Raeyeon in a hug.

The girl then sighed in relief, even though she was still wondering about the conditions of the old men before. She looked over to the room Woojin was in and silently mumbled a thank you, inaudible to even her mother.

When Mrs. Ong parted the hug, she also looked at Woojin's direction. "Then I too, owe my life for his bravery and kindness."

"...mom, no."
