Love Triangles: In General

Love...that one emotion that have different levels depending on who the person the main character is with, but there are those moments when they get two love interests..or they have a love interest and there is someone else who likes them or their SO and things get confusing.We're talking love triangles. 

Love triangles are one of those double edged plot devices that not a lot of people like, mostly due to the fact that it sometimes have little to do with the actual  plot of what the hell is going on....unless it's one of those romance plot lines, then go for it.  Now there are many subtropes for the Love Triangle and the list is in total of 18. Yes they will get their own chapter, probably not after this one, but they will get one nonetheless. 

Now Love Triangles often involve siblings, some sort of rivalry, it being in one's own head, threats of murder/harm, the supernatural, etc. It can be a combination of anything really, like best friends fighting over person C and wind up with each other or Person A is in a relationship with Person B and Person C thinks Person A is in love with them and so on. It just depend on who's writing it. 

In Naruto, and by some extension Naruto Shippuden, there's the Naruto/Sakura/Sasuke love triangle. Naruto has a crush on Sakura, who loves Sasuke. There's also the Ino/Sakura/Sasuke love triangle, where Ino and Sakura are best friends( sort of) who both like Sasuke. 

The most famous ones from the Marvel comics are Scott Summers/Emma Frost/ Jean Grey( and by extension her clone) Scott Summers/Jean Grey/ Logan because that's always entertaining.,Peter Parker/Gwen Stacy/Mary Jane ( and I think he ends up with either one depending on the comicverse), and finally Thanos/Deadpool/Death because who doesn't want to get with the anthropomorphized concept of death.

Pirates of the Caribbean turns this into more of a Love Pyramid, with Will and Norrington in love with Elizabeth, and Jack attracted to Elizabeth. Elizabeth loves Will and is also attracted to Jack.It's hilarious and the amount of hijinks that ensues is very entertaining 

I really don't have to get into Twilight. 

Now how the characters are in the love triangle is always a toss up. The set can be goofy/smart/emo, bad boy/plain jane/ knight in shining armor, hot and cold, etc. And the genders are almost always two males fighting over a girl or two girls fighting over a guy.Just once I want a guy and a girl fight for the attention of the third part of the triangle and that is sometimes the case, though it sometimes involves a murder plot or two. 

Now fandoms are full of Love Triangles they've created because of..well any number of reasons. For example, the Percy Jackson fandom...there's the Percy/Annabeth fans and the Percy/Rachel fans, and seeing how SeaweedBrain is canon, there are some very up set fans...and that's ignoring the Percy/Nico fans..long story ,don't ask. There's nothing wrong with pairing you favorite characters with who you think is best for them, just don't start a war over it.
