A few days later
-

It's been three days since Valentina's surgery. She's up and moving and talking and laughing and ready to come home. Today she's coming home. I didn't visit her at all yesterday, just to create some suspense.

My parents went to the hospital an hour ago to bring her home. I didn't go so I could prepare the house.

I put rose petals on the floor by the front door and I lit candles placing them all over the house. I want today to be perfect for her, I want  her to be shocked when she comes in the apartment. This'll be her first time seeing it in person.

When we were touring places she liked the pictures of this one the most. It's a huge town home that's the size of a house. Four bedrooms with a full bath in each one, a balcony on each floor and the living room was huge which was connected to the kitchen.

I look around the house and make sure I have everything in place. Dinner  vxdrfis on the table, candles are lit, rose petals every-fucking-where, and all that's left is her.

I'm nervous for today. I've never been this nervous in life and for once I took John's advice. I don't like John but I took his advice anyway how crazy is that.

I sighed and walked around the house making sure everything is in place. Once again. I've walked around this place so many times I could do it with my eyes closed. That's how nervous I am.

I reached in my pocket to grab the ring but it wasn't there.

"Oh shit" I said then checked my other pocket. "Where is it?"

I finally remembered, I left it up stairs on the dresser. As I headed upstairs, I heard the door knob turn.

Their here, I'm not ready I don't have the ring. I bolt upstairs and sprint to the bedroom, grabbing the box with the ring in it and then headed downstairs again.

The door started to open and I practically jumped down the steps trying to hurry up and get in position.

"Where are we?" I heard Valentina's beautiful voice say.

"It's a surprise" my mother then said.

When the door opened Valentina had a cloth over her eyes. Good thinking mom.

"I'm scared" Valentina whined.

I tried not to laugh at her using her hands to sense where she is. My father grabbed her arm and held her still. I nodded at them and they took her blindfold off.

Her eyes bolted around the house before she finally landed them on me. "Wha-" she said out of breath. "What is this?" She asked me.

"Our place" I said nervously.

She smiled and made her way over to me. She hugged me tightly and covered my face with kisses. After letting go I spoke slowly.

"Valentina, I love you very much. Every moment I'm with you, I think of how lucky I am and how much I've grown with you, how you've made me a better person. When we first met I didn't think I'd fall in love with you so quickly. I'm so glad that you're alive and here with me"

She smiled and kissed me softly. "Me too" she then continued to look around. "This place is beautiful Joshua" her eyes went over to the dining table and she saw all the food. "Did you cook?!" She laughed out loud.

"They helped me" I said pointing to my parents.

She smiled at them and then headed over to the table. "It smells delicious"

She had her back turned to me and I took that as an opportunity.

I walked behind her, pulled the little box out of my pocket and I got down on my knee. "Valentina" I said breathing hard.

She turned around and her smile was gone, what replaced it was a face of shock. "Joshua..."

"I want to spend the rest of my life with you" her eyes watered and tears fell on her cheeks. "Will you marry me?"

She covered her face before she answered. "Yes" she whispered.

I smiled and stood up to embrace her in a hug. I'm so glad she said yes. For a second I thought she was going to say no. "Yes" she said again.

I pulled away from the hug and grabbed her hand. Taking off the ring that was on her finger, I replaced it with a new ring, fresh with diamonds. She looked at it then at me, she hugged me again and kissed me.

I finally did it. We're going to get married.
