Chapter 27

Jayden's POV

"Ashley... I.. We can't sign this." I said staring at the papers.

"It's either y'all or foster home. Jayden I'm dying. You and Kadience are perfect parents for him." She said as tears rolled down her cheeks. I hated to see people cry and hurt, I couldn't stand it so I looked away. "Jayden you heard the doctor, I only have four more hours to live according to him. You both have time to think about it and if you don't sign them I completely understand. Just remember it's either y'all or foster care."

I picked up Kaden , the stack of papers and the bear and balloons Ashley had bought for Kadience and left Ashley's room. "Daddy where we going ?" Kaden asked looking up at me.

"We're going to go see mommy." I had so much shit running through my head right now.

When I got to Kadience's room I gently knocked on the door then let myself in. She was sitting on the bed listening to my voicemail I left on her phone the night she got shot smiling to herself. "Mommmmyyyyy !" Kaden yelled jumping on the bed and attacking her with a hug.

"Hey baby, what are you doing here ?" Kadience replied hugging him tightly.

"Ashley sick." He replied. I sighed and sat the bear and balloons in the window seal. I sat in the chair next to Kadience's bed and looked at the stack of papers Ashely had given me.

"What's that ?" Kadience asked me.

"Adoption papers." I replied handing them too her.

Kadience's POV

I looked over the stack of papers Jayden had given me. At first I thought he was just playing but sure enough they were adoption papers with Kaden's name on it. "Wh... Why is she doing this ?" I asked in disbelief flipping through the papers.

"Stage four leukemia." Is all Jayden said as he looked out the window while he rubbed his chin hairs.

I looked over at Kaden who was watching Spongebob then back at Jayden who was still looking out the window. I already treated Kaden as if he were my own , I take care of him just as much as Ashley dose, he calls me mommy , he calls Jayden daddy. Kaden was my son the only difference was I didn't give birth too him. I picked up the pen and signed my name on the paper then handed it to Jayden. I watched as he signed his named too.

"She wants to talk to us before she leaves." Jayden said

"Leave ? For what ? Is she getting discharged ? No she can't be getting discharged it's the middle of the night." I asked. He didn't even answer me he just continue to stare out the window.

An hour later Kaden was sleep on my chest and Jayden had went downstairs to get some fresh air. I took this chance to call my mom and tell her everything that was going on.

"Kadience I know." She said

"Do you think I'm doing the right thigh by singing these... Wait you know ?" I asked rubbing my head

"Yes baby , I know. You and Jayden will be great parents to Kaden."

"I'm not ready to be a mom. I'm still a child myself."

"Kadience it's going to be fine, I'll be there to help you along the way. Go see Ashley like she asked, tell me how things went. Goodnight love you." She said before hanging up the phone.

I was deep in my thoughts when Jayden came back in the room. I hadn't even noticed him. "You ready?" He asked picking up Kaden off my chest.

"Yea I am." I pulled the covers back and sat up , sliding my feet into my bedroom shoes.

"Babe wait lemme help you." Jayden said rushing over to help me up.

"Jayden I'm fine." I stood up and headed toward the door. Jayden didn't like riding in elevators but I made him ride this one with me. I was standing against the wall with my eyes closed when the elevator stopped. "You gotta be fucking kidding me right now." I said immediately pushing buttons in the elevator.

"Watch your mouth, I told your ass we should have taken the stairs." Jayden said sucking his teeth.

"Whatever , I was not finna walk up all them stairs."

"Code blue on floor four ! Code blue on floor four!" We heard someone yell on the intercom. I sunk in the corner of the elevator floor and waited impatiently for help.

We were in the elevator four hours before we finally got help. When we got out we went to the room Ashley was in. I gently knocked on the door before letting myself in with Jayden and Kaden behind me.

"Nobody's in here." I said looking at the already made up bed. "Your sure this it ?" I asked Jayden

"Yea I'm sure this room 403." He said looking at the room number.

I walked out the room and went to the front desk. "Can I help you?" The lady behind the counter asked.

"Hi , I was coming to visit a friend. I was wondering if they moved her to another room or something." I explained

"Name please ?"

"Uhmm .. Ashley Jones." I said

"I'm sorry Miss but she passed four hours ago."

My heart dropped when she said that. I was lost for words. I knew she was going to die but not before I got a chance to talk to her. Her son didn't even get to tell her goodbye.
