ALEXANDRA POV
"Kate... Kate wake up."
I whisper into the ear of one of the only people I think I can trust at the moment. She stirs. As her eyes flutter open she looks startled. But why wouldn't she? It's 4am and I'm sitting directly above her head.
"Alex! What the heck are you doing? Why are you in my house?" she says groggily. I look down. I don't want to tell her. I don't need to tell her. But why lie when she might be able to help me?
"He's gone." I say still focused on my lap "Jack's gone." At first she looks startled, then she looks at me with sincere sympathy. I don't want sympathy. I dont need sympathy. But at least I know she cares.
I woke up irregularly early this morning, heaven knows why. I found myself wandering into my kitchen, when I found a note on our families kitchen table. I didn't think anything of it until I saw my older brother's rough handwriting on it. His words made my heart sink.
I've gone out to see them. We need their help.
When I first read it, I couldn't believe he would do this to me. He promised he would never go to them no matter how much we needed the help. But he broke his promise. He's gone to see the Bruxa.
"I'm so sorry Alex." she says. And I can tell by the tone of her voice that she means it. I have no clue what to do about my circumstance, and feel like no one else knows what this is like. But my friends do. Grace's older sister, Amalie, went to see the Bruxa a few months ago about a problem they were having. After about 3 days their problem had vanished. So had Amalie.
"Can I help?" Kate asks. I feel like laughing. Once Jack's on that path, there's next to no hope of getting him off. It's nearly impossible. When someone enters the arch leading to the Bruxa's path, they never come back.
"We have to go try and find him, Alex." Kate demands. "But we'll have to bring the others."
I know we will. My other friends will insist to help.
