Caylie POV

It's early when Alexandra wakes me. Her face is covered in blotches- she's been crying. I sit up and rub my eyes groggily.

"Alex?" I say inquisitively. She purses her lips before bursting into tears and hugging me. I place my hand on her shoulder and narrow my eyes.

"What-" I start, but it's interrupted by a blood-curtling scream, from something right next to my ear: Alex herself.

She pulls away from me and crawls backward towards the forest. I turn around and gasp: standing behind me is a huge, black beast covered in thick, slimy fur. I stumble back, then lay frozen in fear. The thing crawls towards us on all fours with its long skinny legs. I start to hyperventilate because of how quick I'm breathing. I shut my eyes tightly, hoping that when I open them, whatever this thing is will be gone.

I open my eyes.

The thing is no more than three feet away from me. I stay like a statue. I can smell its breath, rotten as if it's just eaten a bucket of sour milk. I whimper in fear as it takes a step closer to me.

"AAAARRRRGGGGHHH!" is all that I hear before a blur of red sends the beast flying backwards. The monter howls in anger as it tosses aside the lump and runs towards the forest.

Not good. Not good. Not good. I watch the monster enter the woods, and then run to my hero. Heroine, I suppose I should say.

Alex is wheezing on the ground. I kneel next to her hurriedly and check her for any injuries. I don't spot anything until I see her foot.

It's turning bright red and it's getting bigger than normal.

"A-Alex.. Please lay down," I ask calmly. She looks down at her foot in horror and wheezes, "I'm.. o-o-oka-ay.. Just... can't... kn-knocked the.. the wind... outta... breathing... hard... th-that thing... wh-what... w-w... was.. th-that?"

I say clearly once more, "It's okay Alex... J-just lay down... It's okay..." She lays her head back and I heave a sigh. That thing- whatever it was- I don't think it came b y accident. No, I think that all the crazy crap that's happened to us since we left has been on purpose. Thanks a lot, Bruxa. Thanks a lot, Jack.

"Stay here," I tell Alexandra, "I'll be right back. I promise." I run in no particular direction and shout, "KATE!"

Out of the corner of my eye I see a brunette running in my direction.

"What WAS that noise?" Kate yells back to me, "That 'Ahhhh' noise? Was that you? Is everyone okay?" I desperately grab her hand and pull her along to Alex. Alex is still breathing heavily, but she's not wheezing anymore.

Kate gives me a concerned look and then goes to take a look at Alexandra's foot.
