Alexis Diaz

-

Watching my mother's brows furrow and her forehead start to wrinkle made whatever little confidence I had in my body leave. I wasn't sure if I should bring up the fact that she needed her brows done or if that'd just add on to her anger towards me.

Her hair was neatly slicked back and she'd just come back from lunch with a few of her friends when I approached her with a proposition I assumed she'd be okay with.

"I don't know who the fuck you think I am, but you will not run game on me. He's 30 years old Alexis and you think that I'm going to just be okay with you screwing him?" My mother questioned with a shaky voice.

"We are not having sex! I like him and I want to be with him, I'm eighteen now so I know I'm ready to make my own choices. If you have an issue with it I can leave" I said growing attitude.

I should've know she wouldn't hear me out, it was always like this. She expected me to go along with whatever she wanted me to do and I could never think for myself or make my own choices.

"If you leave with him I'm cutting you off financially. No car, no credit cards and you can't stay in the guest house. You just graduated high school and you have so much to look forward to and as for this man you're so crazy about, I'll have Quincy and Marquis pay him a visit. Let's see how much he still likes you then" My mother scolded.

I bit my bottom lip feeling defeated as I stared straight ahead. I couldn't touch my trust fund until I turned twenty one and I was a high maintenance chick so she knew I wasn't going for it.

"Go ahead and tell me how much you hate me and I'm ruining your life so I can throw my heel at you" she threatened.

"I'm not white" I muttered as I stood up. The anger slowly faded from my mother's face and I watched her step around the desk in her office as she approached me and gently stroked my jet black hair that was pulled into a pony tail.

"I have no problem with you dating but these older men only want one thing and that's your father's money and what's between your legs. I didn't raise any dummies and I refuse to have you waste everything your father worked so hard for" she said cupping my chin.

"I understand" I replied gently pulling my face away from her. The two of us stood in silence and I could feel what she was going to ask and it made my stomach turn.

"What happened between you and Anthony? You were crazy about him last month, he comes over to talk to Quincy and you both act like strangers" She said.

"I was crazy about him, he wasn't crazy about me. I broke up with him and he didn't even care, all he wants to do is dress like a bum and smoke weed. I hate him and I refuse to get played by a lame" I said.

The fact that my mother even mentioned Anthony let me know she rarely paid attention to what was going on in my life. If it wasn't for the fact that my mother could use his connections because of his father's drug business she'd disapprove of him as well.

I opened the door to my mother's office where my best friend Dana was eavesdropping. Dana quickly backed away from the door and looked around the foyer trying to appear busy.

"I saw you and she said no" I said with an eye roll. Dana folded her arms and followed me towards the kitchen where my sister Chantel or Chante for short stood with her hand on her hip.
