An ode to meat

The challenge was to write an ode to "something you don't like" and I thought about what I wanted to represent by doing this. I struggle with veganism, there is a part of me that still wants to eat meat, but there is so much wrong in the industry. We need to stop turning a blind eye to the way humans and animals are treated to make meat profitable for the few.

Delightful death,
succulent suffering of life grown,
nurtured only
to be snuffed out.

On the hoof- walk them, walk them
onto the plate
(I ate only the tender parts
and cursed the gristle).

Wade then through blood
on the abattoir floor,
abandon dignity
both human and beast
pack them in tighter, faster:
shareholders have rights you know

rocketing profits
make no mis-steak.
