as she stands over the barbecue
buttering buns and supervising slices of potato,
uncovering the salads she was up early making
while she sent emails coordinating everyone
and waited for her wash-cycle to finish
so she could stand out in the wind and peg it neatly in rows,
while she read to her youngest, and coached her eldest,
massaged her husband's tired shoulders,
vacuumed, washed, swept, decorated.
soothed, cared, checked on, reproved,
negotiated, led and laughed and walked with,
listened and understood, provided for,
drove and shopped, unpacked and organised,
cheered up and settled down.
Lazy cow hasn't worked for years.
