Teenager: a mother's view

I wrote this several years ago

It's not all dark moods,

you show me in glimpses

the man who will be,

the pride and strength, eager to build

a better world,

the overwhelming tenderness,

your admiration given:

diamondlike,sparking with ideals.

You have not yet mapped out your limits

but your horizon darkens with the suspicion

that you may be only human

then you curse and rant,

a little boy again in rage

as yet nothing is fixed,

bright spectrum of maybes, pools of darkness

elate and terrify me watching,

learning (maybe soon) to trust you.

Eternal questions with no answer

storm and rage their bootless course,

clear moments of still unquenched truth,

behind the details

only love.
