Hurricane Dance

Alone in the traffic of this world,

I feel trapped in the clutches of society.

Suffocated, trapped in a whirl.

I'm chained on the edge of sobriety.

A place that frowns upon rain dances,

and labours in wiping off the smiling faces.

The rain pours angrily today,

I can't keep those stubborn, child thoughts at bay.

The sound of pitter patter on the ground,

playing a song, leaving my heart spellbound.

My mother used to say,

"During every storm, the best part is dancing in the rain."

We used to dance all around, creating constellations with each step,

as we drowned out any sound.

Each drop of rain, would cascade down my cheek,

washing away any trace of salty tears.

Now there is a hurricane within my bones,

that nobody knows.

Mother, I will dance through this storm, jump through every puddle.

I will be transformed.

Let the water quench my thirst,

drown the expectations and free me from this curse.

A/N: To everyone who feels weighed down by expectations. Once in a while, don't let the storm pass, for it is a perfect chance to go out and dance in the rain a while. Thank you for reading :)
