What is a memory, but a distant past we once shared.A moment we were once a part of, that has flown in the wind,
like a flock of fledged birds, away from me.
That sleepless, summer night of '18,
when the earth was at its most quiet.
I could hear your shallow breaths,
as the moon rose higher,
illuminating your ghostly features.
You held onto my hand, so tightly,
afraid you would never be able to grasp it again,
once you let go.
Your warmth was all I felt,
the universe in your eyes was all I could see.
Your last fighting words were all I could hear,
"Moments in your life are not held in the mind,
because of the emotional weight they carry.
They are kept in the heart.
A true measure
of how they are essential
to someone's life.
Right here."
Your loving touch was all I held onto,
as you pointed to your heart and mine together.
Memories held by a heartstring,
play in our minds like a soulful song only meant for us to hear,
and in the quiet, desolate nights,
we sing.
A lighthouse on the shore, uses light to guide its ships home.
This moment, engraved in a piece of my beating heart,
guides me home, when I am lost.

The most beautiful things in life are not things. They're people, places, memories and pictures. they're feelings and moments, and smiles, and laughter.
A/N: Shoutout to my friend @raymac_eric for this poem idea, the words in the quotation are his, (with permission to use them of course). They come from his short story "Friends". He has awesome short stories, that literally sound like poetry so please give him some love too. He deserves it. :) :) :)
