And she did in fact not die but live a very happy life without him.
Of course she missed him very much.
Spencer eventually found love and had a beautiful baby boy, whom she named Peter.

He was heartbroken when Spencer left but he never let anyone know it.
He refused to tell the boys what had happened or even let them speak about it.
He had blamed Jacob and 'lent' him to the mermaids.
He wished and wished he could talk to her just one last time.
