STEVE
I lie in bed, staring at the ceiling. Today, like everyday, I will get up, go outside, go on an hour long run, and then read. Then, once it gets dark, I will come back inside and go back to sleep.
But my routine is disrupted by a call. My phone. I haven't used it in years, I get out of bed and search around for it and find it in the bottom drawer.
Tony is calling. I hesitate for a moment, then flip it open.
'Tony?' I ask, attempting to be casual.
'Hey Cap, we got a situation.' He says, annoyingly blasé as he always was.
'I'm out Tony. I'm done with that.' I say, walking outside, looking at the forest ahead of me.
'We could get them back. We could get them all back, Bucky and Peter and T'challa, everyone.' He says. I'm silent, comprehending it all. It's been over a year since I last saw them all, since I heard their names out loud.
'I'm done, Tony.' I say, about to hang up.
'No, no, wait. Wait a second, please. We have a chance, Steve, Fury called someone, Captain Marvel, he thought she could help us, and she thinks so too. But we need everyone. I need you Steve, please trust me on this.'
I look to the woods again, and find that I was always expecting this, I was waiting for this call to say it wasn't over. To say we still had a chance.
'Send a plane to the coordinates.' I say.
'What coordinates?' He says.
'Don't act like you don't know exactly where I am.' I say, laughing slightly, realising how much I missed him.
'You see a plane?' He asks, his voice muffled by a loud noise.
'Yeah?' I reply, wary. A plane comes into view, coming towards me.
'Yeah that's me waving.' I see a figure hanging out the door, waving at me.
'Tony, you idiot.' I whisper in awe.
'I missed you Captain.' He says as the plane comes to land beside my house.
