~Your POV~
Aaron has been very kind, not asking me about what happened earlier this month. It has been a few weeks since that day. Aaron got my art bag a few days later. I have really improved on my art skills ever since I got here. Occasionally, Aaron and I check up on Leo and Lola just to see how they're doing. Today, I decided, I was going to go to Alex's place and congratulate him on being Washington's new assistant.
"Y/n, do you want me to come?"
"I've been in the open alone before. Plus, it's not a big deal. If I see either of them, I should be mentally prepared by now. No need to worry yourself."
Aaron nods hesitantly before opening the door for me. I walk out and thank him again before walking to Alex's place. He lives in a small townhouse, since he can't afford much more than that.
"Y/n! Come in, come in!" Alex waves, ushering me into his place. "I tried to keep it clean, but there really isn't much hope."
I laugh slightly. "How has everyone been doing?"
"Everyone? As in..."
"Yes... L-Laf and Laurens included..." I speak slowly. For a second, I panic, seeing Alex's face of surprise.
"Let's start of easy. Herc's business has been doing well. All the patriots and soldiers go there now."
"Good for him! His business deserves recognition."
"Laf... He's been struggling. Him and Laurens won't talk to each other. They haven't ever since that day. Laurens has been in tears a lot ever since. They both really miss you."
"I miss them, too, but I don't know if I am ready, Alex."
"I'm not going to force you to do anything, but I recommend you talk to at least one of them. I have to get back to work, though. The general's been keeping me busy."
"I'll take my leave. Great job, by the way, on getting to be his assistant."
"His right hand man." Alex corrects.
"Yeah, yeah."
We both laugh. I walk out the door and shut it. I walk to one of the worn down cafes that there are and sit at an empty table.
"I don't know what to do..." I tell myself quietly.
"Y/n...?" I hear a familiar freckled friend say.
"John!" I turn around. I see tears streaming down his face as he runs up to me and gives me a hug.
He suddenly pulls away. "S-Sorry..."
"It doesn't matter. I missed you so much!"
"I thought you were mad."
"Of course I was. But it's hard to stay mad at you for long! I just, um, don't know if I can... can talk to Laf right now... He knows too much right now."
John wraps his arms around me and wipes away my tears.
"It's alright. I'll be here for you."
"Thank you..." I fight back the tears that want to fall.
"Of course. I have something to tell you, though."
"Yes?"
"We're fighting in the revolution. Alex, Laf, Herc, and I."
"W-What!?" I feel liquid run down my cheek.
"I'm sorry, Y/n. I know we really haven't been able to talk much, but the four of us, we need to fight for what we believe in. Burr's also going."
"Y-You guys are all leaving?"
"We're leaving after the ball. Yes."
"How could you do this to me!? I talk to you again, and I hear that you're going away the next second!" I start to cry more.
"Y/n... We can't let the king manipulate our country like this!"
"John... Ask Laf why I'm annoyed by this. Make up with him. Alex told me what happened. I don't want to hear anything more until you two make up."
"Alright, Y/n, if that's what you wish, I will try my best to be friends with Laf again."
"Thank you for caring, John. I really do mean it. Now I must go."
I walk away before John can even say "bye" to me. I start to walk towards Aaron's house when Laf bumps into me.
"Sorry, Miss-- Y/n!"
I feel my face heat up quickly.
"Mon ami, I am so sorry! I didn't mean to 'urt you!"
I feel a teardrop on my cheek. Dammit, why do I easily cry?
"Y/n, I understand if you don't want to talk. I really just wanted to apologize."
"Why didn't you tell me you're joining the revolution!?" I scream. "Why did John have to be the one who said this all!? Why couldn't you have done it!?"
"Mon ami, I'm fighting for what I believe in. I'm fighting for our freedom. Freedom from 'ze king."
"Don't die on me, Laf. I don't know what I'd do."
"I won't, Y/n, I promise."
I hug him, and he hesitates before hugging back.
"I missed this."
"Me too, Laf. I missed you so much."
He kisses my forehead. "Would you like to sleep over my place tonight?"
"I won't want to bother anyone."
"I live alone, Y/n. You know this, mon ami."
"Y-Yeah, but I'd need to tell Aaron. He'd be worried. He would've killed you and John if I hadn't stepped in. Imagine me being missing for a night. He'd be worried sick!"
"Oui. Go tell Burr and 'zen you can sleep over."
"Thank you."
He nods me off as I run down the street to Aaron's place.
"Aaron, I'm gonna sleep somewhere else tonight."
"Okay. Wait... What!? Don't tell me you're sleeping over Hamilton's."
"No. Ew. Someone else..."
"Mulligan?"
"No."
"Then who!?" He whined.
"Don't worry, I won't die on you. He hurts me and I'll let you murder him."
"Alright. A he...?" He gives me a sly grin.
"I hate you sometimes... leave me alone, I'm going over Laf's for the night."
"Wait, what!?"
"We need to catch up. I know you aren't that fond of him after that time, but please let me."
"Whatever makes you happy. Just remember, I can and will ruin his life if he tries anything."
I nod quickly and thank him, grabbing a bag for my clothes. I pack a nightgown and slippers along with a casual dress for the next day. I sigh, looking at the corset. Do I have to? Yes. No. Yes! Fine... I argue with myself and shove it in the bag, too. I button the bag and hug Aaron goodbye.
"Take care of yourself."
"You too, Aaron."
He smiles and watches me walk out the door, to Lafayette's.
