~Your POV~
"I promise you, I'll come back to you. Alive, no matter what." I hear Laf whisper.
My heart beats faster, and I close my eyes, attempting to fall asleep. It doesn't work. I can't.
"Ma cheri, you can't sleep?"
I nod, not looking at him. I'll cry if I do. I feel his strong arms wrap around me, his breath on my neck.
"Try now."
I nod and close my eyes once more. I don't know why, but I feel... protected with him by my side.
~•~ In da morning ~•~
I open my eyes and notice that Laf isn't with me. I jump out of the bed and rush to the living room. I see Laf making soup.
"Ma cheri, you're awake. Sit."
"Yes. Thank you."
"Um, we are still going to the ball, right?" He asks hesitantly.
"Of course! Why wouldn't we? It was just a minor inconvenience. I love both you and John, it really didn't change anything!"
I hear Laf mutter something I cannot hear. He looks back to me smiling. "Merci, mon ami!"
I nod. "I must be getting back now, though. Aaron will be worried. He was especially hesitant when he found out that I was heading over to your place. I wouldn't want to keep him waiting!"
"Alright, mon ami, be sure to write to me when I go to war."
I nod, fighting back my tears. They'll all be leaving me soon. After the Winter's Ball. Who would I have left? To talk to? Leo and Lola will be away at college, so I couldn't talk to them. Everyone else will be in the war.
I walk out the door and head towards Aaron's place. I feel an hand grab my arm.
"Laf, I have to get-" I turn around. Laf isn't there. "I-I'm Sorry, you must have mistaken me for another lady. May you please let me go?"
"What if I don't feel like it?"
"'Ze mademoiselle said to let 'er go. Now do as she says and leave 'er alone!"
"Why should I listen to you? Filthy immigrant."
The man tightens his grip on my wrist and I moan in pain. Laf gives me a worried glance.
"I suggest you leave my friend alone." I could recognize that voice anywhere. Aaron!
"A-Aaron! Help me..." I beg.
"Oh, so the little lady got her servants to save her. Isn't that nice?"
"Let her go." Aaron speaks loudly.
"Mon ami, I'll get 'elp!"
"Hey there pretty lady, how would you like to become a servant to me instead of hanging out with these losers?" The man whispers in my ear.
I shiver and Aaron gives me a worried look before slapping the man in the face.
"Oh, you got a bone to pick with me!?"
I see multiple people surround Aaron.
"Run! Leave me be, I'll be fine! Save yourself."
"Oh, so your girlfriend has sense. You ought to listen to her or we'll emphasize what we want to say."
Aaron moves closer. I shake my head. "Don't do it. It's a trap."
"Shut it, girly." The man shoves a cloth into my mouth. I try to speak, but only muffled sounds come out.
I see Laf come back with John, Alex, and Herc.
"Y/n! Are you alright!?" John yells.
"Yeah, sure, she's alright. Just a bit caught up. Of course she isn't alright!? Do you see her!?" Alex yells.
"Guys, stop. You can fight later, but we need to help Y/n first!" Herc orders.
Alex and John freeze and turn to me.
"Ma cheri, we'll get you back! Do not worry!"
I roll my eyes at him. He does see that I can't reply, right? I try to speak, but the cloth covers up any sound I try to make. The man snaps his fingers and about ten men surround Aaron, Laf, Alex, John, and Herc.
"They should be occupied. Let us go, my dear. I'll make sure you're taken care of very well."
I shiver at his words. He picks me up and starts to run into an alleyway.
"How'd you like to have some fun?"
He ties my hands behind my back. I shake my head. The man grins and slips his hand under my dress, touching my inner thigh. I squeak a bit.
"Sir, please leave this young lady alone."
"And Who May you be?"
"General William Howe of the British forces. This lady is under the protection of my troops and I. I will ask you to leave now, or I will force you to leave. You may choose."
William. I remember him from when I lived in Britain. He was always a coward. I'm partially proud of him for standing up against someone for once.
The man next to me ran away in fear. William approaches me.
"Are you alright, Y/n? The king was worried about you."
"Why would he be worried?"
"You're a loyalist and your family is close to the king. It seems the king knows you personally."
"You could say that..." I mutter.
"Still, are you alright?"
"Yes. He only touched me a bit."
"Where? I'll have the man be specifically hunted by our men."
"Uhm... He touched my thighs, and um, yeah..." I say awkwardly.
"Oh."
"Thank you, by the way. Tell the king I say hi."
"Will do."
I walk off, towards Aaron's house. Hopefully the boys will be alright.
"Y/n! Why are you here!? You shouldn't be near this fight!" Herc yells.
John runs over to me. "He didn't do anything to you, did he?"
He rubs my shoulder. "Nothing but a little touch."
"I swear I'm gonna kill him! How'd you get back, anyways?"
"Uhm... John, he went under my dress."
"I WILL FREAKING MURDER HIM!"
