Chapter 2

Sunlight streamed through the blinds of Honey's room, the warmth of the sun illuminating the bed through lines of shadow and the almost noon sun tried with all its might to fill the room as much as it could.

The two girls had stayed up until early ours just passing three after a night of countless movies, muggle sacks that they both loved and writing a list of all the references they were going to fit into their vocabulary to piss off purebloods even more than they already did.

"Girls?" A yawning Scott entered his daughter's bedroom, rubbing his tired eyes with a grumble under his breath about the light. He had slept in his office, the spare bedroom they didn't need soon converted for his top of the range computer fit with a desk, a bookshelf and even a fax machine.

He had lots of paperwork to get through for the next week, he could work at home as much as he needed but his office needed to get the work he did and for the past weeks he had been slacking with the evident presence of Honey with him.

He didn't want to give up the time he had with her, it was limited as it was and even though she would be graduating next year - god knows what that meant. Honey never talked about it but he knew there was something about her world, like a strain or a barrier or just something that was off.

Something that had him worried even if he didn't have to be.

She used to talk about magic like it was god's gift like it was the most incredible thing that she had ever found out about. Finding out she was a Witch was a dream come true to her, but for the past few summers, it was as though she turned that around. She didn't want anything to do with magic when she arrived back home for summer, she dived into her muggle side as much as possible.

Scott had only seen her wand once and it was the day of Dana's arrival only yesterday when he brought up if she had any homework and she had to get her trunk out from the back of her closet just to retrieve it. She loved magic more than anything, but only at school - Scott never saw her intelligence in that department. He knew she was a smart girl, the smartest he knew, but he didn't know just how smart she was.

"Please go away," Honey groaned, throwing one of her throw cushions at him. She didn't want to get up, and as soon as she opened her eyes she had to immediately close them as the sun beamed right into her eyes.

"You need breakfast," Scott sighed, "what happened to shopping today?"

The girls were quiet. Dana was slowly waking up, her tanned arms thrown over her eyes when she turned around, even going as far as to pout at the man that woke her.

"Are you listening to talking heads?" asked Honey, ignoring his previous question and knowing she'd have to get up soon regardless of if she'd want to, "that's so ten years ago...and depressing."

"Oh yeah? Any more of your cheek and I'll put on the song you were conceived to," Scott threatened, earning a groan of disproval from the girl who grabbed another pillow and threw it at him.

"That's...disturbing," Dana whispered, sitting up to show her very messy brown hair in all directions neither Scott nor Honey thought possible.

"Incredibly disturbing," Honey agreed, "also what I have to deal with for almost three months!"

"It's just over two, you're so dramatic!" Scott exclaimed, earning a grin.

"Put something upbeat on!" Honey ordered, pointing to her wonderful collection of vinyls on an old bookshelf she had gotten from her grandmother and painted a pale blue. She really did near more space, she had so many that picking favourites was a very difficult task, but her favourites were carefully picked out and whilst many were close to making her tops - she selected just over ten.
