I walked down a seemingly endless corridor. I reached a set of intricately carved double doors,
which opened for me.

I entered.

I found myself facing three wooden thrones, on which sat the ancient Volturi: Aro, Marcus, and Caius.

Aro wore an expensive, contemporary, black Italian suit. His long black hair was in a loose ponytail to his waist. Marcus and Caius eschewed modern clothing for rich silk robes, their long hair loose around them. All three had translucent, onion-like, white skin.

"Have you decided?" I asked them.

"It was an intriguing debate," Aro replied. "We don't get many suicidal vampires."

"Pathetic," Caius said in his mind.

Aro continued, not hearing what Caius said, not being able to read his mind. "I'm afraid your gifts are too valuable to destroy. But if you're unhappy with your lot, join us. We'd be delighted to utilize your skills."

"So you won't end this," I said. My heart sank.

"Not without cause," Marcus replied.

I registered this, my face setting. I was going to give them cause. I strided out.

As I walked, I heard Aro's mind: "Such a waste."

Ugh.
