Chapter 17

Dani's POV

A big red van pulls up to the curb

"This is it," Leo grins happily

I kiss his cheek, a chubby man with slick black hair hobbles out the van.

"Hola, Leo!" he smiles

"Yo! Pablo!" they hug

"Ooh two ladies at your arm, I've taught you well, cuz" Pablo chuckles

I blush.

"Well umm this is my girlfriend, Dani," he gestures to me

I like the sound of that.

Girlfriend.

"And this is Selena, my friend"

We get in the car.

"So, Leo, where do you need to go?" Pablo asks

"Uhh Selena?" Leo asks

"City-City Hall" she stutters

"Okay, sweetheart" Pablo flirts

Leo holds my hand," What do you want to do?"

"I don't know" I mumble

Selena squeezes her eyes shut, and a laser appears.

She aims it towards Pablo's shiny hair.

"Ahh!" he screams causing the car to swerve

"Selena" I laugh

"What?" she says innocently

Leo laughs," Nice head of hair you got there, Pablo"

My eyes widen, Pablo has a huge bald spot

Thanks, Selena

"Thanks, Leo, you know I use this special hair grease imported from Spain, you can borrow some if want" Pablo babbles on and on about his hair grease

A few long hours later we arrive in Houston

I step out the car.

"Gods, it's hot" I exclaim

"I don't feel anything" Selena shrugs

"Well that's because you don't get hot"

She laughs, her eyes glaze over," Pennzoil Place"

"I know where that is," Leo says," It's in downtown. We can walk from here"

We walk downtown.

"Wow, all these buildings are amazing" I gasp," Look at those two" I say pointing to two trapezoidal buildings.

"I only see one" Selena says confused

"Pennzoil Place, there's a huge cloud of mist covering this place, but it's fading" I say looking up at the buildings

"Yes! I've always wanted to go into fading building" Leo mumbles

We walk inside, and I see a stone statue of a man.

"That's Phillip Johnson, son of Hepheastus, he designed this place" I say immediately

Leo looks at me in shock

"What?" I shrug," I'm not just a pretty face"

Selena laughs," Maybe your a descendent of Athena"

"Either that or you've been spending way to much time with Annabeth" Leo jokes

We walk upstairs.

I see six people standing in a group, hissing.

"Uhh, Leo, Selena ," I say pointing to the people

"Calm down, it's just some weird cult" Selena mutters

I listen closely, and here them hiss in unison," Half-Bloods"

Leo, and Selina are looking around.

They don't see the six people morph into a huge scaly lizard with six heads.

"Leo!" I scream," Selena!"

They immediately turn their heads, and pull out their weapons.

The monster charges at Selena.

She dims the lights,

"Cover your eyes" she screams in Greek

I shield my eyes.

I feel a warmth through my hands.

"You can look now" she yells.

I move my hand, and see the monster running in in circles.

"It's blind now" Selena says

I shoot an arrow in it's neck as a distraction.

"Leo, help me get up there" I say pointing to one of the heads.

Leo wraps his arms around me, and throws me towards the monster.

I latch onto its scales, and pull myself up onto it's long neck.

I crawl up on it's head.

"Gods, I know what this thing is" I mutter

"Leo! Selena!" I yell," it's a hydra"

Selena dims the lights again, and a ball of light appears in her hands.

Leo summons firs and it appears in his palm.

I close my eyes, and I feel the intense heat around me.

I feel flames licking up my leg.

I scream in pain.

I open my eyes, and see the head of the hydra I'm on, falling.

I hit the ground. Hard.

I open my eyes and see Leo looking at me.

I see worry in his eyes.

"Dani?" He says softly," Are you alright?"

I look down at my leg. My skin is raw, charred, and red.

"Oh my gods" I gasp

"You'll be okay" Selena says.

I nod slowly, and try to ignore the pain.
