CHAPTER TWENTY THREE

Me and baba were at the breakfast table while Saba was preparing the breakfast for all of us as we decided to eat together.

Baba's been trying really hard to bring all of us close together and said that, "a family that eats together starts together, and we all need to stick by each other."

We agreed and now was juts waiting for Saba to set the table when baba spoke up.

"Shehry beta, how's the office? Everything's fine there?" he asked and I choked on the water I was drinking.

That was expected yet still unexpected.

I felt a lump in my throat and coughed while baba stood up and patted my back.

"I'm fine baba, you sit." I said and he sat down.

I took the glass of water again to take a sip when Saba entered with the food.

The breakfast was quite later than but after we were done and baba was standing I called him and made him sit again.

"Baba?" I called him.

"Woh- actually I left the office, I don't have any idea." I said and his muscles went stiff.

"Why did you leave Shehry?" baba asked politely.

"I- I... I didn't liked Ibrahim there." saba snapped at me when I mentioned Ibrahim and then she again looked down at her empty plate.

"Is that the only reason?" baba asked and I barely shook my head.

"Then?" baba asked and I felt Saba and baba, both's eyes on me waiting for me to answer.

"When I joined again after baba's death he took over everything. Dad choose me to be the head after him and in your contract-... Ibrahim was the one. He took over quite happily as you weren't there and dad also wasn't even there. I was also lost somewhere too and he changed all the system till I got back. He made my presence useless and I left very soon." I explained and he listened to me quietly.

"I'll get this thing done, you don't have to worry since I'm back." baba assured giving me a smile and got up.

"Shehry beta, come I need to talk to you!" baba called me and I nodded. "soon okay?" baba said again.

"Yeah okay." I said and started walking towards the rest room to wash my hands.

"10 minutes. In the hall. Hurry." baba shouted from the hall and I smiled, though even he still can't see me.

I washed my hands and carefully went inside the hall, I looked around and Saba was nowhere to be seen.

"She'll not be here." baba said laughing.

"Why not?" I questioned.

"Because I wanted to talk to you." baba said emphasising on 'you' and pointed towards me.

I smiled and sat next to him and turned a little to listen to him.

"I sent her myself don't worry she understands." baba said.

"Hmm."

Silence.

No one of us initiated a conversation. I decided to break the silence.
