"Sam!" Tom repeated
"What?" She shouted
"The fire has spread, we aren't getting out!" Tom said even louder
"Get some sheets and put them in the gaps on the door. Oh no!" Sam looked down at her patient
"What's wrong?" Tom asked
"I nicked a vessel, he won't stop bleeding!" Sam said
"He's gone into organ failure. We don't have the stuff to fix him, he's dead Sam" Tom stared at her
Sam took off her gloves, put them in the bright yellow bin then went and sat down in the furthest corner from the door. Tom sat with her and got two oxygen masks too, just in case.
Outside, Dylan had pulled up in his car and stepped out to see the devastation. He instantly went to find Sam.
"Charlie, where is Sam?" Dylan said
"In the building, they haven't got to them yet" Charlie frowned
"Them? Who is she with?" Dylan was in shock
"Tom and their patient" Charlie walked off to deal with a patient
Dylan froze, words couldn't surface and he felt like he couldn't breathe. He sat down on the floor in the middle of the car park, his body wouldn't let him do anything else.
"Woah!" Nick ran straight to him
Dylan sat there, breathing heavily.
"I take it you heard then?" Nick said
Dylan nodded quickly.
"Ok Dylan, your having a panic attack so we are just going to stay here and breathe. I'm not going anywhere and we will get Sam out" Nick said
Sam and Tom sat in resus getting hotter and hotter. Sam took her scrubs top off, leaving her in her vest. Tom followed her lead and took his top off too.
"So, this isn't awkward at all" Tom said
Sam laughed and said, "don't worry, I was the only woman in my regiment, I have seen a lot more and a lot worse then that"
Tom got the wrong signal and leaned in to kiss Sam. As their lips brushed, Sam pushed him away and hit her head trying to escape. Her eyes rolled and she collapsed.
Just in time, the firemen made it to resus. Tom carried Sam out to the car park where an anxious Dylan was.
"Why are your tops off?" Dylan said with alarm bells in his head
"We used our scrubs to cover the door so the smoke wouldn't get in" Tom coughed
Nick tended to Sam while Zoe tended to Tom. They made a lucky escape.
