"to get to the bliss love brings,
we'll have to get through a war. "

__________

the school bells rang, signalling for students to begrudgingly drag themselves to the first class of the day.

the 3 day break had ended, and for soojin, it had ended the complete opposite way she had thought it would.

instead of enjoying herself the previous day, she had locked herself in her room, unwilling to come out. the break had started on a good note because of well, renjun. but to her dismay, it ended with uncontrollable tears.

"soojin-ah, see you during the break, have a good day!", sakura tried to cheer the gloomy girl up.
she had found out what had happened after she returned to the school last night from chaeyeon and the pair had ended up arguing.

"she likes him!"

"but there's nothing wrong with that!"

"yes there is! he isn't a good person!"

"how would you know?"

sakura had a differing mindset towards the sporties than chaeyeon. she was aware that a sportie had cheated on an arthead and all that but she strongly believed that not all sporties are cheaters and didn't resent every single one of them.

"yea, see you later.", soojin lowered her head, hiding her swollen undereyes from crying the previous night.

sakura sighed, "oh chaeyeon, it seems like you're the one who broke her heart."

despite the teacher's loud voice booming on about algebra, soojin's mind wasn't on the Xs and Ys, but was rather on renjun. they weren't even dating, but it felt like they had broken up.

on the other side of the school, renjun found his mind wandering off to soojin as well. he had been thinking about jeno and chaeyeon's words. "everyone will hate her.", "you'll never be together."

he wanted to see her, to talk to her. he couldn't stand the thought of not being able to do just that. "will i ever talk to her again?"

lunch break. normally, soojin would look forward to the 1 hour of just eating, talking, and no nagging from the teachers.

however, this time, she was dreading it. lunch breaks were the only time sporties and artheads had the opportunity to see each other during a regular school day. their classes were held in their respective faculties and no one really bothered or had time to visit another faculty between lessons.

soojin's clenched her fist and bit her lip as she hesitatantly made her way to the cafeteria.

"wait! soojin!"

the voice belonged to the cheerful, smilely looking jeno.

soojin stopped in her tracks.

"yes?"

"w-well, u-uh, soojin...", jeno stuttered as he shyly looked down.

"i-i like you! i've liked you for a long time! and i was wondering if... you would consider being my girlfriend?", jeno finally mustered up the courage to burst out.

it felt like a weight had finally been lifted off jeno's shoulders. there had been many instances where he wanted to confess, but had never been brave enough to do so.

blank.

that was all soojin felt.

if that exact moment had happened months ago, perhaps even a few weeks ago, she would have no doubt accepted the confession and would probably even be jumping in joy.

she had liked jeno alot. anything he did made her heart flutter.

but that wasn't the situation in the present.

the only boy she wanted to be with,

was renjun.

an "oh" escaped her lips.

"jeno, i think you're a great person- kind, talented and all. but... i need time to think about it."

"oh! it's alright! i'm glad i got it off my chest anyway. take your time, there isn't a need to rush. i'll wait for you.", jeno shot soojin an understanding smile.

relieved at his reaction, soojin smiled back and continued on her way to the cafeteria.

at the cafeteria

"there she is!" , sakura pointed towards the entry way of the cafeteria as she spotted soojin walking towards her and chaeyeon's table.

once soojin reached the round table, she smiled at sakura, and gave a forced, meek one to chaeyeon.

every since the incident, soojin and chaeyeon hadnt talked and soojin didn't quite mind. she wasn't ready to start talking to chaeyeon yet.

while chewing on her chocolate pocky, soojin noticed  renjun, sitting with his friends on another table.

she soon tore her eyes off the boy- even just the sight of him made soojin feel even more glum.

but what really made her heart sink all the way to her stomach, was the sight of renjun laughing, smiling, looking as if what had happened to them hadn't happened at all, looking regular.

"does he really not care?"

"were we really nothing?"

little did she know, the boy had been sneaking glances at her, noticing at once that her the usual radiant, cheerful soojin wasn't there.

he laughed at his friend's stupid jokes, cracking some of his own. to anyone but himself, he just looked like a regular, everyday renjun.

but to himself, he knew it was just a mask to hide the sadness.
