Lindsey's POV
Monday arrived quickly and before you know it I was on my way to school. I'm not excited about going to school at all. I thought my brother would've been cool and let me skip it, but he told he wants to be more responsible. My brother is basically a man-child in some ways.
"Come one kiddo, cheer up." My brother told me, making me roll my eyes. I gave him an emotionless expression and he sighed.
"You'll be fine." He assured me, turning into the parking lot of the school. I grabbed my backpack and looked at my brother.
"Can't you homeschool me?" I asked my brother with pleading eyes and he just laughed. I pouted and opened the door.
"Nice try. See ya later." He waved at me as I exited the car. I gave him a wave and closed the door, slinging my backpack over my right shoulder. I watched my brother back out of the parking space and drive away.
Hiddenville High. Let's see if you're worth a shot.
I headed for the school entrance and I tried my best to avoid other at the moment. Later, I will try to make friends but right now I just want to make it through without embarrassing myself.
Once I made it inside, I grabbed my schedule from my bag and my locker number. My eyes wandered around the lockers in front of me and they stopped on my locker.
I went up to it and opened it without a problem. Unusually for me because I normally have a difficult time opening a locker. I shoved my books inside and glanced at my schedule once again to see what class I have first. It was Art.
I actually enjoy art, it's one of my favorite subjects. I've been told I'm an amazing artist.
I grabbed my sketchbook from my locker before closing. I let out a yelp when I saw a figure right in front of me. It was Max, the boy I met when I moved in on Friday.
He was leaning against the lockers, smirking at me. "Hey."
"Hi, Max." I greeted, averting my eyes from him. He's cute and all, but I'm not in the mood to talk to him.
"So, you need help getting to class?" He questioned me with a sense of hope in his voice. It was small but noticeable. "Because I will gladly help you."
"Depends on what class you have first." I reasoned, glancing up at him.
"Art." He responded and I sighed.
"Fine." I agreed and I saw him grin satisfied. Max motioned me to follow him and I followed him to class. Max is good at hiding it but I know he is happy about me agreeing with this. Empathy is an awesome power to have.
"So, how come you moved to Hiddenville?" Max suddenly asked me.
"My brother got a job here and I couldn't stay with my father," I responded honestly.
"How come?" He asked, genuinely curious.
"My father is in the navy and wanted me to live with my older brother," I explained and Max nodded. Not exactly true, but it's similar to the truth.
"Cool," Max said. Max opened the door to the Art room and we walked in. The teacher wasn't here yet, but some students were here in their seats. I noticed Phoebe, Max's sister, was here as well.
Phoebe turned her attention to us and her face lit up when she saw me. She motioned me to join her and approached her smiley self.
"Hey, it's Lindsey right?" Phoebe asked and I nodded. "You can join me."
I was about to when Max appeared next to me, stopping me from doing so.
"Lindsey, you can join me. I'll make sure to keep you company." Max wrapped an arm around me and I shrugged it off. He winked and I rolled my eyes.
