Lapis POV: First Person
She started strumming, making me unable to respond. Instead of hesitating like she had last time, she smiled and started singing.
"If I told you
this was only gonna hurt,
If I warned you
that the fire's gonna burn,
Would you walk in?
Would you let me do it first?
Do it all in the name of love."
The first few lyrics rolled off of Peridot's tongue effortlessly. I sat in awe as I wondered how someone with her voice could feel insecure about it. It sounded like everything that made me happy and warm on the inside, like the feeling of a beach on a cool day.
"Would you let me
lead you even when you're blind?
In the darkness
In the middle of the night
In the silence
When there's no one by your side
Would you call in the name of love?"
Peridot had closed her eyes for the last couple of lines, letting her voice roar out from the gentle tone it had been taking. Her eyes opened and fell upon mine, which sent chills up and down my spine.
"In the name of love
Name of love
In the name of love
Name of love."
Her voice reached a higher level and rang with a tone of anguish and I'm want that made something inside my chest stir. Her face had risen up as the notes got higher, animating along with the lyrics.
She put her head back down and continued to strum a bit more before she started up again.
"If I told you
we could bathe in all the lights
Would you rise up
come and meet me in the sky?
Would you trust me
when you're jumping from the heights?
Would you fall in the name of love?"
Her voice had become bolder as she continued on. My heart pounded in my chest and an alien feeling filled me to the brim. Peridot's face became more heartfelt as she went on to sing the next lines, looking me straight in the eyes.
"When there's madness
When there's poison in your head
When the sadness
leaves you broken in your bed
I will hold you
in the depths of your despair
And it's all in the name of love
In the name of love
Name of love
In the name of love
Name of love."
Peridot poured so much emotion in the song that my eyes started to water again. Her voice vibrated in the air, strong enough to withstand being blown away by the breeze.
