Luke stared down fondly at Ashton's sleeping form that cold night, watching as the boy snored softly.
His fingers were featherlight as he ran them through Ashton's wavy hair, sinking to his knees beside his bed.
"I know that we're just strangers in your eyes, Ash, but I love you. I'm so sorry I couldn't protect you from all the shit you've gone through - hell, even those snotty kids in school who used to pick on you could've been stopped. I-"
Luke bit his lip, eyes drinking in Ashton's peaceful state as a light shined through the window from a passing car on the street below.
"-I'm here now. I was made to protect you, and I will. That I can promise."
Luke leaned down and pressed his lips to Ashton's forehead, light enough to not make the sleeping boy stir.
"And I hope you end up loving me as much as I love you because, fuck, I can't watch you suffer anymore."
