Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the Marvel Studios film and the ninth installment in the MCU as it is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and released in 2014. This has been said to be one of the best MCU films and even comic book films, and I agree.
Chris Evans returns as Captain America and once again is perfect in the role. In this and in every MCU film he is in it that he gives a lot of heart in for the character. Scarlett Johansson also returns as Black Widow and was amazing as we got to see more of her being a badass. Samuel L. Jackson also returns and Nick Fury who as always does great. Sebastian Stan returns as the Winter Soldier/ Bucky and steals the show as his performance is amazing and perfectly executed. The film also stars Anthony Mackie as Falcon, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow, and Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce who all did great in their roles and help move the story forward.
The film is about Captain America and Black Widow uncovering a conspiracy within SHIELD while they face the Winter Soldier who might be someone from Steve's past. This film is a corrupt political action film which was done so perfectly. I liked how this deeply affected the MCU as it is the Empire Strikes Back of the MCU with the twist that Hydra was in SHIELD all along. The film does do great with the emotions behind it, especially with Cap as he is adjusting to the new world, and finding out his best friend is still alive as a brainwashed assassin. The reveals were done perfectly as they were shocking. The film does have great action from the Cap and Winter Soldier to Black Widow kicking ass, and a great score, especially with the Winter Soldier's theme.
A few minor flaws with the film are that I wish Sharon Carter could have had a bigger role, cut out the romantic tension between Steve and Nat, and had more of the Winter Soldier backstory.
Overall this is one of the best MCU films as it heavily affected the MCU which tied perfectly into Agents of SHIELD at the time. This is probably the best film in Phase 2 also. This is a comic book masterpiece.
