Training has begun. The first challenge is jumping onto a moving train. Some initiates didn't make it. Just like that, they are factionless. The next is to jump off a a moving train... onto a roof. if you don't make it you're factionless...or dead.
We all gather around the edge of the roof. Eric stands on the ridge. He told us that this was the way to Dauntless- to jump.
Adrenaline was pumping through my veins. My feet were moving, but my mind stayed empty. I stood up on the ridge. I closed my eyes and jumped.
Air whipped around me. I felt the sensation of flying. All of the sudden, I hit something solid yet yielding. It bounced me up and I landed with a thump.
Four reached over the net and grabbed me, pulling me off the net and onto a solid platform. "I had a feeling it was going to be you." he said with a little smile. Lauren, the Dauntless-born initiate teacher, turned around and yelled,
"First jumper- Tris!"
