*Duncan's POV*

Isadora and I were having a conversation about the pep rally later when we turned the corner and saw a tall, scrawny man. His eyes shined in a bright and creepy way from underneath a unibrow. He was very unsettling. His suit looked greasy and unwashed and the pant legs cut off a good inch and a half above his ankle. He wasn't wearing socks (gross), which let his tattoo of an eye fall out for anyone to see. It was Count Olaf; I was sure if it.

"Isadora, get behind me." I growled. I didn't have to tell her twice. "What are you doing here, Olaf?"
" Well, I was just in the neighborhood and I just felt like dropping in and saying hi. I'M HERE FOR THE BAUDELAIRE FORTUNE, YOU HALFWIT!"
"Don't call my brother a halfwit, you miscreant!" Isadora said angrily.

Olaf smirked at her. "And what do you think you're going to do about it? Your only friends are orphans. You don't have your parents or brother here to protect either of you. Ugh. Your mother; such a tiresome woman. Always reading Italian poetry and activating trap doors. Why I wish I was the one that burnt your house to the ground. I guess I wasn't lucky enough to have the chance."

I was overwhelmed with anger and I slapped him across the face. "How dare you speak of our family that way! I ought to call the vice principal and get him to send the police."
"Oh please like that talentless imbecile will be smart enough to believe you." Olaf said cockily. He started monologing and Isadora and I looked at eachother, trying to see if we could get snip-its of what the other was thinking. We both thought to run. To the library. Miss Caliban would protect us and we were sure the Baudelaires were there at the moment. We ran as fast as our legs could carry us. Violet and Klaus told us that Olaf is a murderer and we were very worried about him hurting us.

"Baudelaires! Olaf is here!" I said frantically as I swung the door open.
"What?" Miss Caliban asked in astonishment. We had told her about the disgusting man plaguing the lives of the Baudelaires.
Klaus turned pale with fright. I watched Violet on the verge of hyperventilation.
"We're going to be okay. I won't let him hurt anyone." I said unsurely, setting my hand on Violet's shoulder. That seemed to calm her nerves a bit. "We're going to stop his treachery."

"I appreciate your determination, Duncan, Baby," Violet began, her voice shaky, "But he's barely unstoppable, as far as my siblings and I know. If you tried to get in the way of his plans, you'd.... You'd be lucky if you lived to tell the tale." A small tear trickled down her soft cheek.

"You should've seen the way he looked at us-" Isadora commented, " -Like the way a wolf looks at a rabbit. I was scared out of my mind." Klaus and Isadora had their arms wrapped around eachother comfortingly.

Olivia sat down in a chair and sighed. "How can I help? Other than looking for the book you need."
"Stay out of his way," Violet said, followed by a shaky sigh, "You won't know what he's up to until it's far too late..."Olivia gave a solemn nod and listened to the conversation without another word.

We tossed back a few more ideas. Klaus suggested we run away. I said we wouldn't have the money to live on the road until at least four years. Isadora said that we could call the police, but Violet claimed he'd escape from the authorities like before. I said we call Mr. Poe and ask him to move out of here. Violet said he's found them four times and could most likely do it a fifth. We looked down at the carpeted floor in defeat. Miss Caliban left for a moment to call an "ahem friend" who she claimed might be able to help.

The door to the library burst open. "Ah! Baudelosers! Quagmorons! I knew I'd find you book addicts in here!" Olaf shouted. He knocked over a bookshelf so Miss Caliban was trapped in the other room.
"Why won't you leave us alone!?" Violet asked, balling her hands into fists. I tried as hard as I could to keep her calm.
"I already answered this idiotic question out last meeting, Violet my dear-"
" DON'T CALL ME "YOUR DEAR"! I HATE YOU!"
"Now, now, Violet. Is that any way to talk to a business partner?"
"The only business you have here is leaving!" Klaus countered.

"Oh, but I'm prepared to make you a deal." Olaf smirked, his eyes shining brightly.

*Normal POV*

"We don't care about your deal!" Isadora shouted. Olaf looked at her with a small frown. He walked up to her and bent over so his eyes met hers.
"THIS DOESN'T CONCERN YOU, BRAT!" He barked in her face, letting his disgusting breath loose.

Isadora scowled at the vile man as he turned his attention to Violet. "I am prepared to offer you a trade."
" A trade?"
"A trade."
" What might we be trading?"
"Well, I could leave your siblings and the Quagmorons alone if you say... Came back with me? You could be my bride like we had planned."
"That was part of a scheme to steal the Baudelaire Fortune! I would never marry you!" She wasn't sure if he was telling Olaf or the Quagmires.

"You're not getting what I'm saying, you idiot! I'm saying that I will leave your family alone if you come with me and give me access to your money!"

Violet pondered it for a moment. She began to walk over to Olaf before Duncan grabbed her forearm. "Violet! No! We can solve this another way!"

Violet turned to Duncan with tears in her eyes.

"Violet! You can't go! Please!"
"What other choice do I have?"
"You could stay with us! Please, Violet! We could go on the run even!"
"Olaf will follow us no matter where we go. It's no use. I need to go- for Klaus and Sunny's safety," Violet said, wiping her tear-stained cheeks. "I don't like this as much as you all don't."

"Please," Duncan said horsely.
"You'll always be my first love."
"Don't... Don't say it like that."
"Goodbye, Violet said, walking away. Klaus and Isadora had to hold Duncan back so he didn't run after her, even though they wanted to stop her too.

" No! Violet! Please come back! We'll save you!"

Violet turned to her family and friends. "Nobody can save me now." She said, disappearing through the doorway with Olaf.
