Chapter 20: Storm Clouds Are Brewing.

Jai's POV:

Two days had passed since Roxas and Xion's arrival. Each sunrise brought a feeling of impending doom that we all pretended wasn't there, as if it were some annoying paperwork shoved in a drawer. That particular morning, I wasn't surprised to find Axel splayed on the bed next to me. His argument was that I hogged the bed during the day while I 'rested', so it was only fair that he could sleep there sometimes too. He wasn't at all fazed that he would be sleeping next to me, whereas even the thought of it made my heart beat in all funny rhythms.

"I feel like I'm in a cell again," I sighed, hugging my knees to my chest.

"Give it less," Axel barked with laughter. "You were in that cell for three days, tops."

"Felt like three years," I muttered cynically.

"Drama queen."

"Seriously, I just want to go out and do something!"

Axel sighed and sat up, his white singlet sliding up his side with the movement. "I know. We just can't risk you hurting yourself more."

"Can't risk, or don't want to?"

Axel glared at me and crossed his arms. "C'mon, that's not fair."

The door burst open, revealing Roxas whose eyes were bright with determination. "We can hear you two fighting from the other room!" he sang.

Xion quickly joined him, her black locks arranged messily on her head. "Loovebiiirds!"

I glanced at Axel. "When did those two become the comic relief?"

"Dunno," he said with a shrug. "They're not good at it, though."

Redhead staggered out of bed in only his singlet and boxers, making Xion's eyes widen. Her cheeks glowed pink and she had to look away.

"Aw, someone's embarrassed," Roxas joked, ruffling Xion's hair.

"I've only ever seen a guy in a black cloak, okay?!"

I had to stifle my laughter at how defensive she was getting. It was sweet and naïve. When I moved to get out of bed, my sleepwear similar to Axel's with just a singlet and shorts, it was Roxas' turn to get embarrassed.

"Girls have legs like that..?" he murmured.

Axel glared at him and crossed his arms. "Both of you are perverts."

"W-What?" Roxas cried, tearing his eyes away from me. "I was just joking, man!"

Axel and I exchanged an exasperated glance. Away from the Organization, personalities seemed to change. There was no doubt that the trio were still the same Nobodies as before. They just seemed to be more free; they seemed willing to experiment with the things they said and did.

The Axel I knew before never would've called me babe, or climbed into bed with me, but his actions had done a complete 180. Same with Roxas and Xion... although we were still in a serious and somewhat terrifying situation, they acted like the world had been lifted off their shoulders. They actually attempted to be funny.

Of course they failed, but they tried, right?

"Why did you two rush in here?" Axel demanded harshly.

"Chill," Roxas said smoothly. "Just visiting our favourite couple."

Translation: they were bored, and wanted to annoy us.

Well, not for long.

"We're not a couple," Axel muttered harshly, his cold, green orbs almost piercing through Roxas' body. If looks could kill...
