Chapter 5: I Trust Them.

Jai's POV:

My eyelids fluttered open, and it was then that I realised that I was in my room. But I hadn't fallen asleep there... I'd actually fallen asleep on the floor. How embarrassing.

There was a timid knock on my door as I stretched my arms and gave out a big yawn. "Come in!" I called, flashing my rows of white teeth in a friendly smile as Cloud entered my room. My smile faltered slightly as I recalled the pent up frustration at him and the others for lying to me.

With Demyx, I'd at least forgotten all of this stuff for a day and enjoyed myself. Maybe it was the black cloak that brought happiness. There couldn't be any other reason for such bad fashion choices. I had to get myself one of those.

"Oh... Hey Cloud," I greeted, unable to hide the sadness in my voice. He smiled shyly before sauntering over to sit on the edge of my single bed. He ran a hand through his blonde hair and gave an audible sigh.

"Jai, I--"

"Cloud-"

"You first," Cloud laughed warmly, his ocean eyes shining. I took a deep breath, preparing myself for what I was about to say.

"Can you get Sora here anytime soon?" I questioned nervously. Cloud's jaw dropped slightly in shock, before he found himself nodding to my request.

"Yeah... I'll do my best," he promised, a sad smile gracing his lips. I loved it when Cloud smiled. He was like a brother to me, and I knew after a couple of months of being around him that his smiles expressed his mood most. I'd pretty much known him for years now, and I knew what each smile, glance and slump of his shoulders meant. If Cloud didn't smile at all anymore... I didn't know what I'd do. No matter what he was feeling, he would always smile for me.

"What did you want to say?" I asked politely, brushing through my tangled, bed hair with my fingers. Cloud pat my feet through the covers before standing up.

"It doesn't matter, Jai. I'll make some bacon and eggs for breakfast and then our plans for the day are to clean up Hollow Bastion a bit. You in?"

"For sure! It is my committee after all," I giggled happily. I couldn't stay mad at Cloud forever. If it was something I had to know, he'd tell me for sure.

At least I think he would.

Cloud left my room, with a conflicted look in his eyes. He was going to say something... it had to be important. I pushed myself to get out of bed, running a comb hastily through my hair and throwing on some black jeans and a white t-shirt. I put my spiked bracelets on, quickly applying eyeliner, mascara, foundation and powder. I hurried out to the main room, the smell of freshly cooked bacon and eggs invading my nostrils.

"Smells good!" Yuffie chirped cheerfully, an excited grin stretching from ear to ear. I took a seat at the table as Cloud placed a plate of food in front of me. Saying it looked delicious would be an understatement. Leon, Aerith, Tifa, Yuffie and Cid all took places around the table near Cloud and I, their eyes almost devouring the food.

"Okay, so it seems we have a lot to do today," Aerith laughed, her eyes flickering to me. "You're the boss, Jai. Assign our jobs and areas!"

I smiled, determination stirring within me. "Cid and Aerith, I'd like you to stay here and come up with a system to protect our town from Heartless. I'm not sure how, but I'll leave you to it."

I could already see the cogs turning in Cid's head as he nodded. I trusted him completely - he was a freaking genius. I knew that Cid could lose himself a lot in his work and get frustrated, and Aerith would be able to calm him down, while helping to contribute. Aerith was pretty smart too. It was the perfect pairing.
