Cadence's POV
It has been nearly two years since princess Vera's birthday ball
My third and fourth had already passed which I celebrated happily with Anne, Lady Lena and Levin
6 months after I had turned a year old, I had finally begun my education
I had been assigned tutors for the multiple subjects I was studying
I studied seven different subjects: dance, etiquette, violin, politics, geography, accounting and last history
Each subject was around an hour per day with intervals for breaks, meals and simply some free time
Since I had already known how to read and write I could skip those classes and move straight on to the more advanced ones
For today's violin lesson we decided to head out to the garden for a change of scenery and fresh air
I stood there, playing the violin as best as I could as my violin teacher watched, assessing my performance
I was nearing the end when
[ "What is this?" ]
A deep and attractive voice said interrupting my practice
I stopped playing and looked up to see his red eyes stare me down intriguingly
[ "Y-your majesty!" ]
My violin teacher said well dropping to the floor bowing
His entire body was stiff and covered in a cold sweat but the emperor ignored him completely instead keeping his focus on me
[ "Good evenings, Father" ]
I say well do my best to curtsy as elegantly as I could
I stared at him intently waiting to see what his next move would be
[ "Hm you missed so many notes, is the teacher I hired you inept? Or are you the one incapable?" ]
He said finally breaking the silence
His voice was as cold and chilling as ever
Hmph, how much does he expect from a 4-year-old child?
The fact that I can even hold up this violin with this small physique is already shocking enough, it is only normal that I make a few mistakes when I'm still a toddler
Not to mention I'm his biological daughter, can't he be even a tad bit more lenient on me?
His standards are just much too illogical hmph
[ "I'm sorry. I'll practice harder..." ]
I said looking down pitifully feeling highly aggrieved and mistreated
I had no choice but to swallow my frustration down
I'm not so ignorant as to what the emperor is like
I have read the multiple written books and biographies about him describing all his past "obstacles" and "accomplishments"
Who would dare go against this ruthless monarch who won't hesitate in the slightest to kill whoever may oppose him
Sure I may be his blood child but when has he ever showed care for me?
The amount of contact we've had this past couple of years can be counted on your hands alone
And just like I thought he didn't even bat an eyelid at my pitiful response
Instead, he smirked provocatively
Hmph, heartless father...
[ "You, why are you so skinny? Is my manor so poor that we can't even afford to feed a single child?" ]
[ "I eat my fill every day!" ]
[ "Hmm is that so?" ]
I nodded aggressively
[ "Mm! I eat 3 whole meals and desserts and snacks as well!" ]
[ "Oh then why don't you prove me wrong?" ]
Eh, what does that mean? Does he want me to eat some cake or the like?
[ "Tomorrow evening you will come and eat lunch with me" ]
...
Eh
Wait how did this happen? How have I gotten myself in this mess?!
To have to go eat lunch with this heartless devil of a father, I don't want to at all
I'd much rather stay at home and read my novels and stories
Ugh this is the worst, I can't handle being with this intimidating sharp-tongued emperor for something as long as a meal
...but in the end, what right do I have to refuse?
Thus I reluctantly nodded well putting on my best "how exciting" smile
[ "Y-yes, Father" ]
Well I suppose in a way it will be quite a "thrilling" event
Sigh, I just hope he doesn't torture me too badly...
And without another word, he walked off again just like that
I plopped to the grass laying down on my back
Not in the least bit lady or princess like but what did I care?
Ah ah, I could really use some cakes and milk right now.
I could feel the drool come out of my mouth
After much thought I stood back up and fixed my dress and hair, trying to pick out any grass that stuck on
Once I was done I turned to my forgotten violin teacher who seemed even more tired than me
[ "Teacher isn't it about tea time now..?" ]
Meanwhile.
Klaus continued to walk until he was completely out of Cadences view
He suddenly halted
[ "Ray" ]
A black figure that seemed to come out of the shadows suddenly appeared in front of Klaus
[ "Master.." ]
The handsome black hooded man said well kneeling down on the floor
[ "Go and find out all her favourite foods and have the chef prepare them tomorrow..." ]
[ "I understand master" ]
And just like that, he disappeared back into the shadows, gone to accomplish his task
Klaus was now left alone in his desolate palace
He smiled lightly in a way that he has never allowed anyone to see with the exception of a certain person
It was as if his previous cold air had disappeared
[ "It's the first time she's ever smiled at me, how peculiar..." ]
He said in a voice so quiet that it could barely be heard
In a split second his smile had vanished and his chilling air had returned once again, as he headed off on his way
