Chapter XIII

Cadence's POV

A night's rest had passed and it is now early noon as I sat in front of my usual vanity

I had already gotten dressed in the morning but after telling Lady Lena about today's plans she insisted I changed

So here I was now in a pink gown that Lady Lena and Anne had decided on

It was quite a cute frilly dress decorated with bows and ruffles on the ends and sleeves

The dress went in on my upper body and puffed out slightly on the skirt reminding me of dresses from the Victorian times

The pink all over made it seem like something that came from a Barbie movie

Anne separated my hair into two sections, the top and bottom then tied the top up into a neat high bun

Then she took the untied hair and professionally curled the ends into light bouncy curls

Anne used a curler to do so but it was a bit different to the ones on Earth

In this world technology did exist but it was different

Everything here was powered by special gem stones that stored magic

In a way they were like batteries, just much more powerful

The bigger and purer the gem, the more magic they held and the more powerful they were

Magic stones were translucent and inside each of them would hold a sparkling orb

When the magic has been used up the orb will lose its glow and become useless

But no, enough about that I have something much more important to think about

It is already time to head off to go dine with the emperor otherwise known as my father!

Although we lived in the same luxuriant and grand palace, the place is so large we almost never run into each other

[ "Princess you look absolutely adorable, his majesty will love it, I'm sure!" ]

Sigh... Anne this man you're talking about is not a regular folk

He is a ruthless monarch who is willing to even kill his own blood siblings, how could he care about me one of the many offspring he has not ever payed any attention to?

But how could I ever say such thing out loud?

Would it not be too scary to hear such words come from the mouth of a four year old?

At this age a child should be as pure and innocent as ever

[ "C-cady!" ]

Levin suddenly barges into the room completely out of breath

[ "Big brother! What's wrong? Why are you so out of breath?" ]

[ "M-mommy told me you were.. h-having lunch with father today!!" ]

[ "Mm, I will be heading of soon" ]

[ "N-no Cady you can't go, you can't!" ]

Levin says well grabbing my shoulders tightly

[ "C-calm down big brother! It'll be alright" ]

[ "N-no you don't understand Cady! Haven't you heard, sixth sister is dead! Father killed her!" ]

W-what

There's no way, he actually could k-kill his own blood child?!

Even a viscious tiger would never hurt his own off spring!

H-how could he do such an inhumane thing!

[ "Cady now do you get it? There's no way you can go! W-what if Father does something to you?!" ]

H-he's right, what do I do?!

Knowing him he really just might kill me!

Is that why he suddenly planned this "lunch" ?!

No wonder it was so out of the blue!

N-no what do I do, what do I do?!

I don't want to die again!

I finally found happiness, I don't want to leave it so soon!!

I collapsed onto the floor

I could hear Anne and Levin screaming out my name but all I could think about was my fate

My entire body was frozen as I could feel the tears stream down my cheeks

Suddenly I felt a hard slap on both my cheeks

I look up to see Lady Lena look at me worringly

[ "i-it hurts.." ]

I say as Lady Lena pulls me into her tight embrace

[ "it's okay, it's okay" ]

Her voice is soft and gentle as she holds me in her arms

It's warm.. so warm..

[ "Klaus.. he would never hurt you" ]

Her gentle smile and reassuring look almost makes me want to believe her

I wipe away my tears

[ "Mommy, p-pinky promise..?" ]

I say softly well holding out my pinky to her

[ "Mm, I promise" ]

Lady Lena answers well hooking her pinky with mine

[ "When have I ever broken a promise my sweet dear?" ]

[ "M-mm... Anne let's go..." ]

[ "P-princess are you su--" ]

[ "Y-yes, now let's go.." ]

I get up, eyes slighty swollen and my face tear stained

[ "No Cady you can't go-!" ]

[ "Big brother it's okay" ]

[ "I'll be okay, I promise" ]

I give the teary eyed Levin one last smile before leaving

Anne quickly follows me as we walk to the emperors chambers

I.... I trust Lady Lena or at least I want to believe in her words..

Meanwhile...

The maids and chefs were all hurringly preparing for the little princess's arrival

The long table was being filled to the max with dishes and desserts of all sorts

Klaus stared at his reflection

[ "Alfred" ]

Alfred is an eldery man who has taken care of Klaus since his toddler days

He now serves as his personal butler but do not be fooled, he is not as weak as he may look

[ "Yes your majesty?" ]

["....." ]

[ "Do... do I look okay...." ]
