Chapter XXXIV

Cadence's POV

[ "I- I would like to stop being friends with you!" ]

I blurted out on the carriage ride to school.

The twins looked at me, startled and shocked at my sudden request.

I felt my cheeks burn as I quickly realised my mistake.

[ "N-no, I don't mean stop being friends forever I just mean temporarily!" ]

Claira lets out a sigh of relief but the twins still eye me suspiciously.

[ "...Why out of all of a sudden? This couldn't be because of what Eugene said yesterday could it?" ]

Allycia asks me with a worrisome expression.

[ "No, no- I mean yes but... thinking about what Eugene said, it's true I rely on the both of you too much..." ]

[ "Cadence, you don't have to worry about that. You're the beloved princess of our empire, it's normal that we protect you as not only your friends but your loyal subjects as well" ]

Allycia says whilst rubbing my head and comforting me.

[ "That's right, besides that Eugene is too arrogant himself! Don't listen to his unreasonable words!" ]

Claira adds on. She looks annoyed as she remembers the encounter and arguement from yesterday. The two went on all lunch time until we had to practically drag them apart.

[ "thank you but... I truly think I want to try change. Just like you both, I want to be strong and proud, and know how to speak up for myself. Its not like I want to stop being friends with you guys, just at school could we possibly keep some distance...? Just for a while?" ]

I explain to the twins. If I continue to stick around the twins 24/7 there's no doubt I will forever hide behind their backs and fail to grow.

Even if we temporally distance ourselves they will still be my precious friends and I know that will never change.

Claira is about to speak out in protest but Allycia swiftly stops her.

[ "I understand Cadence, Claira and I will temporarily distance ourselves from you at school. However, we will continue to take carriage rides home together. At the very least that much must be okay right?" ]

My mouth curves into a wide smile as I nod my head.

Truly, to have such understanding and kind friends is perhaps one of the greatest blessings I've received.

We arrive at school and the twins and I go our separate ways.

It was strange not walking to class together but I had to start getting used to it.

I let the twins go to class first whilst I took a brief walk around the school.

Hm, I think I can roam around for about 15 minutes before I need to go class. Good thing I woke up early today.

The school was beautiful and large but it had been around a month since I started school and I was confident I wouldn't get lost.

I reached a quiet area of the school where grass and bright green trees grew freely.

It was peaceful and calming esspecially because no one else was here besides me and the morning birds.

I sat down, leaning on an esspecially large tree and closed my eyes. It was a warm morning but the wind was cool and felt quite pleasant.

I placed my hands down on the grass but felt something different than what I had expected.

F-fingers...? Somebody else's hand!

I jumped up and immediately retreated my hand.

From the other side of the tree, a figure leans over and makes eye contact with me.

Straight deep blue hair, enchanting amethyst eyes and a binding stare.

It was none other than Eugene!

To think I'd meet him again and in such strange circumstance to top it off!

[ "I-i'm sorry!" ]

Is all I can manage to say in the spur of the moment.

He stares at me blankly and I feel myself getting embarassed.

In general I'm not good with people I'm unfamiliar with, but I'm esspecially bad with males!

I wondered if I should just hurry and rush off but he opens his mouth before I can do so.

[ "Why are you here?" ]

He asks me

[ "I-I was just taking a walk and thought I'd rest a bit here, I'm sorry to disturb you I'll quickly leave!" ]

I turn around and get ready to run away but he suddenly grabs my arm and prevents me from leaving.

I look at him confused and flustered by his actions.

[ "About yesterday... I'm sorry for saying many mean things about you..." ]

......

Eh? His apologising to me?!

[ "I've been told that I'm too blunt for my own good. It's a bad habit of mine so sorry for that" ]

He says whilst looking down and causing his fringe to cover his face from me.

I did not expect for this situation to suddenly happen!

I'm not sure how to properly respond but judging from his tone he seems to be genuine about it.

[ "I-it's okay so can you please let go of my arm..." ]

I can feel my face is flushing slightly as he finally realises his actions and lets go of my arm.

I back away from him a bit but don't leave just yet.

[ "U-um although you were harsh you were just being honest. It's true that I'm no good and always let the twins do everything for me b-but I'm going to change now! I will definitely become more brave and independent in the future!" ]

I blurt out before running off.

Uwah it sure took me a lot of courage to say that! My cheeks feel hot and my heart is thumping out of my chest!

B-but somehow that felt good...!

Eugene watched Cadence's figure as she ran away towards the buildings.

She was quite the small and petite girl, and her face was flushed red as she shouted out her bold words.

She was shaking slightly and stuttered a fair bit, but she looked Eugene straight in the eye as she spoke.

Eugene thought to himself that she resembled a scared rabbit, perhaps due to her pigtail hairstyle that looked a bit like bunny ears.

Cadence wasn't aware of this, but after she made that bold statement and ran off flustered, Eugene's stoic face had briefly curved into a smile.

A/n: hi readers sorry for no update last week but times been stressful sadly. If I can I'll try to update again next week but in case I don't here's a small spoiler

After I finish developing this love interest and ship, the stories gonna take a bit more of a dramatic turn

I read a comment saying that this story lacked drama and now 34 chapters in, I agree with that reader. Sorry this has been such a slow paced story XD I'll try to spice it up a bit from now on
