We arrived at some place like some park, which had a beautiful view of Detroit. Hank drove and immediatly got off the car with a pack of beers, which confused me a bit. Connor got out of the car so I followed him. We both walk over Hank gives us a glare, I then look at the beautiful view, I never realized Detroit was full of beauty.
"Nice view, huh?.. I used to come here a lot before..." Before what? I wanted to ask him but it was probably for the best not to get in to his personal life and issues.
"Before what?" Connor asked almost as he read my mind.
"Hm?" Hank asked confused.
"You said 'I used to come here a lot before". Before what?" Connor asked
"Before... Before nothin'..." Hank said like he wanted to open up, but of course he didn't and I respected that, he had his personal issues then... it came to my mind the photo of Hank's son... before his son... left him.
"Can I ask you a personal question, Lieutenant?" Connor said as he crossed his arms.
"Do all androids ask so many personal questions or is it just you?" Hank said, his comment would usually make me chuckle but the atmosphere was... odd.
"I saw a photo of a child... on your kitchen table. It was your son, right?" Hank looked at the ground.
"Yeah... His name was Cole..." After that comment, everything stayed quiet, almost like time froze until Connor started taking steps forward.
"We aren't making any progress on this investigation... The deviants have nothing in common. They're all different models, produced at different times, in different places." Connor said as he looked at us. I opened my mouth to say something but Hank spoke first.
"Well, there must be some link."
"What they have in common is this obssession with rA9... it's almost like some kind of... myth. Something they invented that wasn't in their original program..." To be honest being a deviant my self I didn't know who or what was rA9, maybe if I wouldn't be with humans that much I would of figured out.
"Androids beliving in God... Fuck, what's this world coming to?" Hank said as he drank from his beer.
"You seem... preoccupied, Lieutenant. Is it something to do with what happened back at the Eden Club?" Connor asked.
"Those two girls... They just wanted to be together... They really seemed...in love..." Hank said, That comment made me think, they really did, was it possible for me to... fall in love? I didn't even know we androids could feel that sort of feeling. My thoughts were interrupted by Connor.
"They can simulate human emotions, but they're machines. And machines don't feel anything." Damn that hitted me hard, maybe he was right...
"What about you Connor?.." Hank said and then took a deep drink to this beer and stood up. "You look human, you sound human, what are you really?" Hank said to Connor face to face, I didn't want to say anything with the fear that something else would happen.
"You know exactly what I am. In any case, I don't see how that's relevant to the investigation."
"You could've shot those two girls but you didn't. Why didn't you shoot Connor?" Hank said and pushed Connor making him stumble a bit.
"Hank calm down!" I said as I got a bit closer. He totally ignored my comment.
"Hm? Some cruples suddenly enter into your program?" Hank said.
"No... I just decided not to shoot, that's all" Connor said truthfully. Suddenly Hank pulled a gun and pointed it at Connor.
"Hank! What the hell?" I said still my words meaning nothing to him.
"But are you afraid to die, Connor?"
"I would certainly find it regrettable to be... interrupted... before I can finish this investigation."
"What would happen if I pull this trigger? Hm? Nothing? Oblivion? Android heaven?" Hank said with an intimidating voice.
"I doubt there's a heaven for androids" Connor answered.
"Having existential doubts, Connor? Sure you're not going deviant?"
"I self-test regulary. I know what I am, and what I am not" Connor answered calmly, Hank then lowered the gun.
"Where are you going?" I asked Hank
"To get drunker. I need to think" He said as he passed me, I then rushed Connor to hug him, he was suprised at first but then hugged back, slowly but he hugged back.
"Is there something wrong, (Y/N)?" Connor asked I then looked at him.
"I... I thought you were going to be shot..." my voice cracked a bit at the end, I was getting overwhelmed with the thought of him laying there, his thrium 'heart' stopping, blue blood all over the place...
"I would of been replaced any way, why are you so concered? I am a machine. Why do you treat me like a human, (Y/N)?" I knew the answer to that question, but couldn't, I couldn't say it or else it would of given me away.
"I... I don't know, I just don't want to see you lying on the floor not... responding."
"Thank you for your consern, (Y/N). I will make sure it doesn't happen." Connor answered me hugging me tightly.
Was he becoming... deviant?
