Ok so this was very loosely inspired by a request I got, but I didn't feel comfortable with some of the content requested, so I thought I'd try a much more innocent concept.

Shawn Mendes was in love with Camila Cabello. He was absolutely head over heels for her and she knew it. But unfortunately for Shawn, she didn't feel the same way.

Instead, she spent her time floating from boyfriend to boyfriend, trying to find the person for her. More often than not, they ended up with her being cheated on. Sometimes she was dumped over text and on the rare occasion it was she who ended the relationship and after every single one, Shawn was there. He sat in her bedroom, with his arms wrapped around whispering soothing words about how she would find the right one and how sometimes it's the person she least expects.

And each time, Camila would tell him the same words, "I'm sorry, Shawn. But I don't feel the same." He would suck up his feelings, kiss her on the forehead and whisper. "I know, but it doesn't mean I can't keep trying." And he hadn't stopped, he was just never successful.

As it was, the same situation was occurring at that moment as they lay in his bed, in their shared apartment, Shawn's arms tightly holding Camila to his chest as he kissed her head, whispering words of reassurance, how she would find the right person soon and how they could be so much closer to her than she thought.

He resisted the urge to roll his eyes as the situation persisted once more and he mentally prepared himself for the moment that he would once again reveal his feelings, only to get put down and spend the next couple of weeks nursing his broken heart before discovering Camila had found someone else.

"You know, Mila-" He was cut off by the shake of Camila's head. "No, Shawn. Please. Stop." His eyes widened in shock at the fact that this time, he didn't even get to utter the words, Camila had just completely shut him down without even listening to his words. He felt his heart crack, a little bit more than it already had.

"Look, Shawn. I like you, I really do." She took a deep breath and Shawn tightened his abs as if that would protect him from the emotional torment he was about to be subjected to. "But as a friend and only a friend." He blinked back the tears. "I'm sorry, but please stop trying because I don't see you that way and I don't think I ever will." He took a deep breath, swallowing back his sadness and blinking away the tears. "I understand, Mila."

He slowly let go of Camila and moved her body away from his. "I just need to get out, Mila. I'm sorry." He whimpered before hurrying out the room, not casting a glance back to the sobbing girl who was nursing his own heartbreak.

He knew it was selfish to run off when he was supposed to be supporting his best friend, but there was only so much rejection he could take and he couldn't help but feel that it was his turn to selfishly do what he wanted, without thinking of the damage on the other and so he stalked out of their apartment building and down to the streets, eventually settling at a bench about three blocks from their residence.

He lowered his head and let out a growl of frustration for letting himself fall for her, to continue to fall for her, time after time. A little more after each rejection. He shouldn't have let himself fall so deeply, hold onto that tiny shred of hope for so long.

He sat there, unsure of what to do. He couldn't go back, it would be too awkward, but he didn't have anywhere else to go. He remained in his position, bowing his head to the floor, wishing he hadn't done this to himself, when just as he was about to stand up and return home, he looked to his right and found a tall, pretty, blonde smiling at him.

"Uh... hi?" Shawn spoke hesitantly. She grinned back at him and Shawn couldn't help but smile a little. "Hi, I saw you here and you seemed down so I just wanted to check if you were doing alright." Shawn smiled in appreciation before shrugging. "Not really. I've been in love with this girl for years and I've tried so many times and every time she says no and I guess this time it's just really hit me that I have no chance."
